A late report on an August dawn cruise.

My thoughts exactly.

 

Upstairs was a little different.

National dress.

 

Then out on the balcony for a glass of wine. It was OK.

Now one last visit to a small church.

 

Really? But I read it anyway!

And out of the old town with a short walk to our bus for the rest of the tour. Good to see the ship getting some attention.

 

And here is the next highlight. The isle of St.George and the island we will visit The Rock of Our Lady.

We catch a small ferry from the village of Perast.

 

And off we go

And we wait until we can go into the church.

 

Inside the church. Only small but very interesting. Lots of silver.

 

A tradition that when married here the bride leaves her bouquet.

 

And this painting is why the church is here.Said to have been found on a rock here on July 22nd 1452. So after each successful voyage the crew would throw rocks in here until an islet was formed. Every July 22nd the boats congregate here and add rocks to the island.

Then upstairs to a little museum.

A complete shambles of organisation. Looks like I set it up!

 

These were said to be over 2000 years old.

Instead of going down the steep outside stairs I left via the church and no one was there so a shot of the whole altar was possible.

Then back on the ferry to Perast.

 

And back on the bus for the drive to lunch.

 

And bus and all went on the ferry to cross the inlet.

And now the bus is taking us to the new marina and the Regent hotel for lunch.

The hotel is in a new Marina developement.

 

then inside for lunch.

 

I had the local beer.

 

the food was good.

And befitting the restaurant's name a lot of glass objects.

Back on the bus for the last time.

 

.And past the airport. Quite a few executive jets.

 

Through a tunnel and on the other side a glimpse of our ship.

The little stream near the dock was very healthy.

 

And back to the ship.

 

We weren't very hungry at dinner. just one course. I had the lamb Rogan josh and it was very good and spicy.

Lovely photos, drron.  That looks like a very good excursion.  We loved Kotor, a pretty little town and the sail in and out is spectacular - especially out, at 5 or 6,  with a glass of something good as you sit or stand and watch.

Now the sail in was spectacular but the sail away was equally so. It was a friday night and there was a lot of music and laughter accompanying the lights.

Thanks Lola. We thought this excursion was almost certainly the best on this cruise. It was though a Virtuoso excursion not a SS one.

The other 2 excursions I really liked were Malta and the SALT excursion from Livorno

 

Kotor was the highlight for me as I had no expectations at all. But from the ship docking at the old town and the ships sail in and sail out it was just spectacular.

The next morning found us cruising into Dubrovnik. This is where a smaller shp is an advantage. We could anchor in the bay and tender straight to the Old Town. Larger cruise ships now have to dock a fair distance away and use busses to get to the Old Town.

Our excursion was first a walk through old Dubrovnik and then out into the countryside.

Back outside and the first busses from the large cruise ships have obviously arrived as the crowds are much larger. very few people when we got off our tender.

 

There was a market.
