Adventure Ocean Questions

Thinking of taking my son on a Father-Son cruise next August (he'll be 6), as my job provides much more PTO than my wife's job.  My son took a cruise at the end of 2019, just before he turned 3, on Carnival (where 2-year-olds can do Camp Ocean) and he LOVED it.  Since then, he's become even more social and active, so I know he would love Royal Caribbean and Adventure Ocean.  I see on Royal's website many sailings that could work, on a whole range of ships from Vision to Harmony and Wonder of the Seas...so I wanted to ask the experts here for some advice to guide my research.

 

First question: Adventure Ocean and Kids' Experience on Vision Class.  Vision of the Seas is the cheapest, closest option for us, but Vision is Royal's oldest and smallest ship class.  While summer vacation should mean lots of other kids on board, does this also apply to longer (e.g. 9-day) sailings?  Also, what are people's experiences with Explorers-aged kids in Adventure Ocean on the Vision Class?  Do kids tire of the smaller size of the program/facility on board vs. the other ships?

 

Second question: Capacity Limits in Adventure Ocean on larger ships.  For the larger ships I kinda have the opposite question.  In some of my research so far I stumbled across Adventure Ocean Daily Planners from 2018 on Adventure of the Seas that indicated that each of the Adventure Ocean groups (Aquanauts, Explorers, Voyagers) were limited to 50 kids each.  For a busy, 5-7 day summer sailing on the larger ships like Liberty, Oasis, Harmony or Wonder, are there capacity limits like these now and do they become an issue in practice/reality?  If my son, say, wanted to spend as much time as possible in Adventure Ocean, how often would he be able to go?  Or do parents very frequently get turned away/space not left to sign up kids for certain sessions of Adventure Ocean during the voyage?

Your son would more than likely prefer the Adventure Ocean (Explorers) on one of the Oasis class ships. Our grandson did much more over the smaller RCI ships. We've never found the kids clubs to be full and be turned away.

Thanks!  So it sounds like the program itself is different from class to class.

Plus larger ships have more things for you to do together - ice show, aqua show, water slides, some headliners (magician or ventriloquist).  We like Vision because it is like the old-style ships.  Lots of the entertainment is in the Atrium and may be things like the crew singing.  Or you can get things like bumper cars and sky diving on Anthem-class (had a 6 year old in there making like Superman).

Yes....our grandkids (5&8)loved AO on Harmony in April but would have been absolutely bored on our Serenade ship  this past September.
