Quick Pass Port Question!

Do you already need a passport to go to the Bahamas? I have a friend that is taking a Honeymoon cruise in late June and I don't think she has a PassPort yet. Should I be encouraging her to get a move on that or is that requirement not mandatory until December?

as for now it will go into effect after Dec 31 of this year. for the

Carribean and Mexico. Everywhere by 2008. Check the State Department we site. http://www.state.gov/travel

I got my kids passporst this year, to avoid giant overload on the system once the requirement goes into effect.
