I wandered into a little souvenir shop to check out these masks. I bought one here back in 2019, and thought I would pick up another one. They're something local to Puerto Rico, and called vegiante or something like that. I should have taken a picture of the description for the correct word. Anyhoo, they're paper mache and very fragile. Hopefully I can get it home in one piece.

La Perla?

If so, I'm glad and your lucky to still be alive.

Yes, I've always wanted to wander down the hill into the little barrio, but I'm not armed. I've read that you shouldn't go down that way.

Papier mache? If you want to get that to Atlanta in one piece, you're going to have to wear it home.

I was getting hungry, and wanted something good and local. Of course in all my research I neglected to even write down the names of any of the places I wanted to go. A place I'd looked at was right across from Barrachina called Cafe El Punto. Supposed to have good food. I went in and waited at the hostess stand for about five or six minutes before I was even acknowledged. This should have been a warning, but I wanted to eat. Eventually I got a table, and fifteen minutes later, someone eventually took my order. I went with the whole fried snapper, with seafood topping, rice and beans, and fries. To drink, they had some fresh mango juice, so I got that. About fifteen more minutes later, the drink arrived.

When I wrote that, I was thinking about the scene in Seinfeld where the lady said "papier mache"...

Looks like you have great weather in PR except for that shower. We were there 2 days before our cruise in February and it poured for both days. Even the day we left PR it was so bad you could hear everyones phones dinging with weather alerts. When we came back to port the following week it was still pouring. We were doing a B2B and had thought we would have gotten off to explore then but no such luck.

Enjoying your review as always.

So, the drink arrived and I continued to wait. I didn't have anything better to do, but I didn't want to be there all day. Eventually, my fish arrived, but there was no seafood side. I just started digging in. To be honest, it did turn out to taste good, and it was a pretty decent size fish. The fish dish was $29 and the seafood side $10 extra. Hopefully it would eventually arrive. By the time it did, I was almost finished with everything else.

I don't know if you've ever eaten whole fried fish, but you can't do it with a knife and a fork. You just dig in with both hands, and it a messy process. Of course I was armed with a pocket full of handy wipes. Finally, the seafood topping arrived... It was actually pretty good too, just the service sucked...

About five minutes later, I was done with that. The waiter kept walking by, and my plates were empty, but he just kept going to other tables.

When I go out to a restaurant, I start at a baseline tip of 20%... Now, this tip can go up, or it can stay the same, or it can go down depending on the service. After he walked by fifteen times, his tip was hovering in the 10% zone... FINALLY, he brought me the check, and I calculated the exact amount including his now greatly diminished tip, and left exact change. I didn't even wait for him to come and take the money, I just went to wash my hands and left.

So, after lunch, I walked around some more with no particular place to go. I ended up coming across Marilyn's Place, a little bar that I stopped into on my very last cruise before the shutdown back in December of 2019. I was actually with "C", my "baby's mama" on her very first cruise. If you don't know of the significance of the whole Marilyn Monroe thing, then you've probably got some reading to do. I don't want to keep going through the whole sad story again and again. (Big Ben, Parliament)... Anyhoo, I just went in to have a couple of beers and think for awhile... They were playing old MTV videos from the '90s, and that made the whole situation even "more real" and old memories began to surface. It was happy and sad at the same time, and I might have cried a couple of tears, but nothing too bad. Then, this song came on the video that was one her all time favorites, and I knew that she was there, and everything became right with the World, if only for a few minutes...

They also have my all time favorite public restroom, so that was an added bonus...
