Can you compare the Mercury to Millenuim class for me?

We finally ventured out of the safety of the Millenium class ships and booked the Mercury. Are we in for a rude awakening or another fine Celebrity ship.

Can you compare and contrast them for me?

We enjoyed the nightclub, casino, main dining, and kid activities on the Infinity, Millenium, and Constellation. Also, the bars, lounges, and everything else!

Thanks for the feed back,

Hi Vince :)

The only disadvantage of the Mercury that comes to mind is its lack of a special dining room, but its food in the main dining room was so good that we didn't miss it. The Mercury has less balconies, but the ones for its sky suites on the sky deck are awesome and much larger than the ones on M class ships. I would recommend not booking a cabin near the rear of the ship because it doesn't have a Gas Turbine Engine, so that part of the ship vibrates substantially when its engines start to leave a port.

One thing I prefer about the Mercury is its size. It is small enough that we kept running into people that we had previously met during the cruise.

hello,

I have been on the Infinity twice and the Mercury once and I will be on the Mercury again on 3/27. The Mercury is smaller than the Infinity (at 77,000 tons to the Infinity's 91,000 tons) and the Mercury is older. The Mercury has an alternative dining room that is set up in the buffet area that is very nice but it is not like the specialty dining room like the United States? room on the Infinity. However, the Mercury is a lovely ship, with a wonderful ambiance, and I am sure that you will greatly enjoy sailing on the Mercury. The Mercury is known to be one of the great values in the cruise field, that is, you get a great cruise in terms of service, food, ports and so on for a very reasonable price.

Hope that this helps,

Fred

Hi Vince,:) I have also sailed Mercury as well as the M-class ships.

They are different yes, and if you prefer larger ships with more dining

options then M-class might be for you.....

I enjoy both.

The M class has the Specialty Restaurant and the Aqua spa cafe,

along with complimentary T-pool services.

(Unless you have a Suite on Mercury).

But the service and food on both class of ships have been

wonderful on all my cruises. I am going back on Mercury in

October!

But I would say you are far away from a rude awakening.

I would love to wake up on any of the Celebrity ships:)

We also did thr Millenuim 2 years ago. Now we are trying the Mercury for the Mexican Riv in Feb 07. Does she has the same amount of lounges as the Millenuim? I've also noticed a third pool located in the rear of the ship with a retractable dome? Is that for everyone, is it fresh or salt water? I think I will buy my wife the week long aqua spa pass, she really loved the Thelosopy pool.

That pool is indeed under a retractable roof (Magrodome) but it is a salt water pool like the others.

Anyone who responds, please advise if they are still charging for the use of the T-pool.

It was not an extra charge on the M classes, wondered why on the Mercury.

Yes, there is a fee for using the Thalassotherapy Pool aboard Mercury (unless you are in a suite or if you purchased a spa service for that day). The spa is nicer and less crowded (although smaller) than the ones aboard the M-class ships.

Mercury and Galaxy are also Century class, meaning the midsize Celebrity ships. Each has slight differences from the other C class ships, as opposed to the carbon copy of each M class ship, except the names of the dining rooms are different etc. but the layout is the same. As each C class ship is refurbished they will be more simillar to one another. Go to celebrity.com and look at the deck plans to see the differences. M class are identical one to the other but C class are slightly diferent one from the other, but similar enough that you'd find your way easily.

The spa pool on Mercury, while much smaller, is much more powerful.

If you are an elite CC member or you have a suite, there is no charge for using it. Also, if you are having a spa treatment, you can use the spa pool without extra charge for that day.

Were does the Century fit in with these ships. Its a C class, this is a smaller ship? We have been on the Summit and it was great.

Hi, Century is 74,000 tons.....Mercury is 77,000. So they are almost

the same. They are both C-Class, along with Galaxy.

Summit is in the 90,000 ton range.....M Class.

Judy: Zenith is one of the oldest of X's ships. It has no balconies, and is 47,255 gross tonnage, thus being about half the size of the Summit. The only other X ships we have been on are the Mercury and Infinity. Of all the ships, I would say we like the Summit the best.

where does the Zenith fit in among all the X ships? are any of the other ships like her? thank you, Judy

Hi, nope, she is only ship in her class. Horizon used to be with her

but X sold her.

She is less than 50,000 tons......approximately 46,000, where

the C-Class are in the 70,000 range.

Zenith's dining room only has one level........all the other ships

have 2.

She definitely has her own style and ambiance.

Quite small and intimate.

We just spent 31 days on Mercury. We seldom use specialty restaurant options since "ordinary" food is so great but some people like the ambiance and extra service. What we like about the C-class ships is the extra lounge. Despite the larger size, M-class ships have two lounges, C-class have three. The Pavilion night club was our favorite location for nightly dancing and prefer it for Capatain's club gatherings. If you like the pool then M-class has larger accomodations. It truly depends on your tastes... choice of dining is greater on M-class. The only ship I would avoid is Zenith. The food is great as is the service, but dining areas are so crowded and the decor so bland that the price had better be really good. However in Nov. it returns to Tampa with longer cruises (up to 14) I would sail HAL for a better value and nicer ship with similar service and food and more comfortable beds for the 14 day cruises out of Tampa. (we have cruised on Zenith for 4 two-week cruises (JAX) as well as HAL's two week cruise out of Tampa in 2005)
