Review of K-dam 7 day Mexican Rivera (12-10 to 12-17-22)

Another Month, another cruise, such is the life of a lucky retired man.

I brought the wife on this one, embarkation was smooth with 4 stars you can always board with group A, no matter what your assigned time is. So we got to eat lunch in the MDR on embarkation day instead of fending off the masses in the Lido,

We've been to Mexico so often we don't do any shore ex's there. We did go ashore at Puerto Vallarta and did a little shopping. We had dinner 5 nights in the MDR and 1 night in Tamarind and another in Rudi's, (see photo) food and service was good every night we had early fixed for the MDR

No Mariner brunch, recognition ceremony  or tile in room, we did get a we're sorry note blaming supply chain issues. This is the 2nd cruise in a row this has happen, same situation on NS in November sailing out of FLL.

Wife enjoyed her thermal suite spa pass for the week which was almost sold out and she reported as being busy most of the cruise, I enjoyed the Casino 2 hours every night and walked off the ship a winner, also won some $ at Bingo. Staff reported ship had 2600 pax onboard which is capacity since space for 300 saved for possible outbreaks.

I only used cell connections in Mexican ports instead of buying a ship's wifi package, since I'm retired I can be disconnected for days at a time and not really care about it.

Come back and sail offer from casino was $750 in free play but no cabin offer. What I call a "half Laminator" I guess I could use it with a private sale fare.

Happy Holidays!

Paul

Was there a sign Group A? Did you just walk past the line of people to front showed your boarding pass in Group A line? 11:30 first group then went to security?

Thanks

I'm interested in the boarding procedures, too.  Did you just walk past the lineup?

Me too -- interested.  I board in two days in San Diego -- or in 9 days if snow keeps me off this segment.

We asked the person telling people where to sit and after he asked someone they told us to sit with the A's. Could be a training issue at some locations

Actually I had over 2800 on both weeks on my koningsdam cruise in November so whoever told you they needed to leave 300 rooms/spots open was not correct.

On our November cruise, beginning with 4154 the fire doors were closed along the corridor of obstructed verandas on Deck 4.  Don’t know the capacity of those rooms but 4154-capacity was 4.  Those rooms were set aside for quarantined crew, many of whom had just joined the ship and had to quarantine before they could be out and about.  I was in 4156.

With over 2800 people there would be no rooms to block from on my cruises.  I could see it happening if there was let’s say 2000 people.

The line will form along the wall outside the terminal.  You will drive in, give your tagged luggage to the baggage staff and get in the line.  I can imagine if people try to cut in to the front of the line there will be a lot of angry cruisers.  There will be one line when you 4*+ go inside the terminal and you will be expedited when you reach the appropriate area.  Just be sure to tell the staff that you are 4*.  If they tell you to sit and wait for your group to be called, ask if they have begun boarding.  If they have begun boarding…..you can board….just go!

Anyway, that’s how it has been every time I have boarded in San Diego.  The last time I boarded was very crowded and they honored expedited boarding for 4* and above.

I was down the hall from you and saw those cabins blocked off on Nov 19th Koningsdam cruise.

I hope they have stopped setting rooms aside for quarantine.

I don’t see how they could.  Capacity of the koningsdam is 2650.  If you have let’s say 2850 where are they going to put all the extra people unless there is 5 to a room which I don’t think is possible.  While quarantining crew might be done it’s hard to believe they are doing that with passengers from what I’m reading.  They don’t seem to have enough crew so maybe they have spare crew cabins.
