Wind Star in Colon

In March, we will be  on the Puerto Caldera, CR to Barbados cruise that goes thru the Panama canal with a stop in Colon.  All of the excursions offered in Colon have an airport or hotel transfer attached for those ending their cruise in Colon. For those continuing on the 18 day, does Windstar put together any excursions? I have read where Colon is not a place to go out on your own, so was wondering if WS will have something.

Colon is definitely not a place to explore on your own. I imagine they will offer excursions.

We ran into this same situation on a 25day cruise last Oct. Several people were continuing on and asked about excursions. They allowed us to sign up onboard for one of the transfer excursions listed but brought us back to the ship after dropping others off at the hotel. Don't know if this will be offered again. We intend to just wait and check when we are onboard.

I would expect most excursions from Colon to be associated with the canal itself, or with Panama City's area. So what you are (?) doing at the Panama City end of the canal is a factor. We happened to Embark from Colon, and the bus ride (from the "Windstar" hotel in Panama City) made it quite clear that there is nothing safe to do in Colon. In other words, we were bussed to the other end of the canal to start our cruise. i.e., You report to Panama City to embark in Colon.

Thank you for the input.  Looking at it now, we are probably going to make it a spa day.  We have been to the locks in Colon before, and are doing some of the same things that they offer in Colon when we re in Panama City.  The only downfall is that it makes three straight days onboard. Looking forward to those problems. 😉
