First Timer on Grandeur...

Recommended Posts

Some of my friends and I are going on the grandeur of the seas later this month and we had a question that hopefully some of you can answer. We were planning on getting to the port at about 12:00 even though we were told boarding is at 2:00 (it seems from reading people's posts here that you can get on earlier then what they state in the travel documents). So if we do get on the ship that early, what is actually open? Are the bars, casino, dining halls, pools, etc..... open??? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Yes, you should be able to board way before 2:00, but your stateroom may not be ready yet. You will be able to have lunch and most of the bars are open. The casino does not open until after sailing. It is never open in port.

Ronaldo: As soon as you get on the ship go to the Windjammer for lunch. Your cabin will not be ready til 1PM so any carry on luggage you have will stay with you until they open the hallway doors. The pools will be open, but the Casino does not open til after the ship sails. There will be plenty of bars open and they will be selling drinks by the pool. The Grandeur is a lovely ship and you will have a wonderful time. Any other questions ask away. Jill:cool:

We boarded at 12:45 even though docs said board at 2 pm. casino can't open until out of port. Windjammer serves lunch from 11:30 to 3:30 so the main dining room is closed. You can't get to your stateroom until 1 pm. You can walk into the main dining room to locate your assigned table. Looking at the Day 1 Cruise Compass - Noon-4:00 pm fitness center orientation, noon- 10 pm day spa open, noon - 10 pm fitness center and gym open, 1:15 - 4:15 Adventure Ocean open house, 2pm - 4pm maitre 'd outside dining room to answer questions about seating, 2 pm - 4 pm spa tours and demos, 2 pm - 10 pm teeth whitening clinic, 2:30 pm liquor tasting at the shops, 2:30 pm - 4 pm expo in centrum, 2:30 - 4 pm explorations desk open for questions, 3 pm - 4 pm first time cruisers club and ship tour, 3:30 expo raffle draw. Then everything shuts down at 4 pm in preparation for the 4:30 muster drill. By then you'll be in your stateroom and can read your own Cruise Compaas. Champage Bar opens at 1 pm, Schooner Bar opens at 11 am, Solarium Bar opens at 1 pm, Viking Crown Lounge opens at noon, pool bar opens at 11:15 am, lattetudes opens at 11 am. We had Capt Haakan and IMHO, he made the crew up-tight as he was uptight (IMHO) you will have Capt Svein who just got back from holiday so I hope you have a pleasant experience. We didn't have a bad experience, just that the crew appeared tired, like walking on egg shells. It was our wonderful waiter and ass't waiter that saved the trip for us. They made it very enjoyable.
