Should I be able to get the lower price for this Alaskan cruise?

Hi! Long time “lurker” on this forum 🙂 I have appreciated all the information I have learned from the members!

We booked the 2 week Alaska cruise for May 2023 onboard our last HA cruise in December. We booked for $1929 (pre taxes) each for an inside room. When we look online now, for an equivalent midship inside room, the price is $1580.70 (pre taxes)

My husband called HA this morning and was told the price is still the same as what we booked!!

From this forum, I have read that as long as we have not paid the final amount (due date is in February), HA should give us the lower price.

Dh did not talk to our PCC (as she does not return calls) but just to the random person who answered.

My question is should I try calling again to hopefully get another agent to talk to? We hate to cancel and rebook as I guess we then will lose our non-refundable deposit plus the bonus OBC we received for booking on the ship.
Should I ask for someone ‘higher up’ to talk to?

Any suggestions would be welcome 🙂

Ask for a "pricing specialist" I didn't know they existed until a few months ago when the agent couldn't find me a price adjustment that I showed online...they transferred me and I got an even better price than I had found

First of all, if your PCC is not returning your calls, you need to get a new one.  Call the 800-355-3017 number and ask for a supervisor.  Explain your situation and ask to be reassigned.

Second, there is often confusion on price declines.  For one thing, if you booked a non-refundable fare you are pretty much locked in to your present deal (thats why you got the lower price that you did versus the refundable fare - much like the airlines/hotels/car rentals).  If you cancel and rebook you will lose at least your deposit.

Also, you must understand that when you rebook you have to accept the current package deal (price and perks).  You cannot take just the new pricing and the old perks. This is were most people get confused.  Think of it as one "package deal" or the other.

Thanks for all the replies!

We have learned now how the non-refundable deposits work. I do wish that the CC onboard the Koningsdam (or the agent my dh talked to this morning) had explained this prior to us booking!
Thanks also for recommending we ask for a new PCC—we will do that!

The quality of the onboard agents varies greatly I have found - some great, others terrible.  Thats why I purchase Future Cruise Deposits while onboard and use them with our HAL PCC after I get home.  The deals are usually the same (after I use the Thank You For Sailing email that comes after about 2-3 weeks when we get home).

I know I can rely on my personal PCC to get me a good deal on what I want.  Sometimes she is able to beat the deals I have found onboard and online (just last week she was able to save me $350 pp on a 7 day cruise!).  Plus the great service is really appreciated.
