Beach From Cabo Tender?

Hello: 

 

We are arriving on Tuesday on our NCL cruise.

 

We have a 4 year old in tow and was wondering what the easiest way was to get to the beach...water taxi? I assume Medano Beach would be the best beach to go to.

 

What is the typical water taxi fare (do they accept USD or just Pesos?) how long is the water taxi ride to Medano?

Both are an option. Guessing @ $12 for a regular taxi (each way). FYI - cabs are very high in Cabo. The taxi cartel controls the city.

Thank you. I've heard that about the taxi union.

 

How easy is it to find a pedicab to take us from Marina to Medano if you know? My husband (who doesn't swim) would rather avoid the small boats plus we have a young child which may make it difficult (although he knows that we have to tender off our cruise ship...🤪).

Right after you leave the tender pier (control area), there will be hawkers offering you virtually every service. But if you like, walk around the Marina walk for a bit (it's wide, smooth, and flat). You'll get to see all the fishing boats as well as some very nice yachts. There will also be taxi's, etc at the end. Figure about a 15 minute walk (longer if you stop to look at things).

This area right here is where the hawkers will take you to get a taxi or pedicab, or you can walk it yourself.

The pedicabs may only get you close to the beach area because the areas around the beach bars/restaurants are kind of hilly. Cabs could get you closer.

 We have taken pedicabs from the Marina to Medano Beach several times.  The driver dropped us off at the same place each time, a circular drive with beach access.  They were probably all avoiding the hills that Padres Fan mentioned.  We picked up the pedicabs at the Marina by walking to the street from the Marina and flagging down an available pedicab.  The pedicabs also pick up at the Marina Market.  

 

There is a pedicab stand near the PlayWin Casino where several pedicabs are usually hanging out waiting for passengers.  But that is likely too far for you to walk with a little one.

 

Two people plus a young 'un is crowed but do-able on a pedicab.

 

The private hotels on the beach are very vigilant keeping people out.  Even obvious white tourists -- one form of "white privilege" I have benefited from in the past was to mingle with the hotel guests and cut through the hotel property.  Last week, I was forced to walk around to the public access area leaving the beach.  Security was kind enough to order a cab for me when I got to the circular driveway.

How is Medano beach for water taxi drop off? Would it be pretty tough for young children?

 

We have children aged 2, 4, 6. We were thinking we might have to do water taxi for a tour of the arch, but back to the marina for a land taxi.

I think that would be the right call. At Medano Beach you could find yourself in knee-deep and the swells "could" come up to your waist. Not unusual to see someone loose their balance in the swells and take a full on dip. Hope the sea lions are on their stinky rock out at the arch (they normally are). Your kids will love that.

I agree with Padre Fan, I would not risk climbing off a panga into the surf with several children.  Too risky!  Go back to the Marina and get off the boat with a real pier to climb onto, and then go grab a land-taxi.

They are typically there, but every once in a while, they go somewhere else mysteriously. And then they are back.

Hello, piggybacking on this...we'll be with a 4 and 8 year old.  Where do land taxi's drop you off at if you tell them Medano beach?  And is it pretty easy to grab a taxi back from that area?  We were thinking of hanging out in front of Cascadas Beach Grill (but happy to take advice from other experienced cruisers). 

 

The last time we did Mexican Riviera was like 13 years ago!

I think that with little ones, I would got to Cannery beach.  It's not busy, it's not too bad a walk from the tender pier,  and not so many sales people.  There are no chairs and only porta-potties, but still a nice place to throw down a towel and swim, snorkel, and watch the boats go by.

The arch is nice, took my son on a water taxi tour when he was about 2. I haven't done Medano Beach. When the tour / water taxi dropped us off at Lover's Beach (I believe that's the one by the arch if I'm not mistaken?) We asked if we could just stay on the water taxi ride back to the ship, we were only there to get an up close view of the arch. They let us, we just had to wait for any other pax who also wanted to head back.
