Egypt: Why Tops for 2023?

From MSN News yesterday by Alicia Miller, they had this headline: 10 best places to travel in 2023 with these highlights:It might be home to some of the world’s most impressive ancient history, but this year Egypt is on the must-visit list thanks to its newest attraction: the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza. Years in the making, this will be the world’s largest archaeological museum and contain countless treasures, including the finds from Tutankhamun’s tomb (which, as it happens, was discovered exactly a century ago).  In Giza, witness the grandeur of the pyramids; explore the statuesque Abu Simbel in Aswan and, in Luxor, discover the glory of the pharaohs.

At the start of this summary, the writer correctly notes: "We all know that the last couple of years haven’t exactly been ‘normal’ when it comes to travel. But the good news is that this year - finally - holidays are properly back with a bang."

As detailed in the live/blog connected below, we super loved in 2018 our two days spent in and around Luxor, the Valley of Kings, lunch sailing on the Nile, etc.

As noted earlier and outlined in my 2018 live/blog, we super enjoyed that small portion of Egypt that we visited in and around Luxor.  Below are a few visuals to have a sampling for what is there from this amazing Egypt historic past.

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

Barcelona/Med: June 2011, with stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik. Great visuals with key highlights, tips, etc. Live/blog now at 255,883 views.

Near Luxor, here are just three visuals from visiting there and going into three different underground tomb areas.:

In Luxor, we visited the Karnak Temple, both for an evening music program, plus during the daytime.  Also nearby with the many historic remains  Below are just visual samples.:

Wonderful photos that you took !

We're off on this trip with Lindblad (Nat Geo) next week and can't wait to get there.  From what I see online, the Grand Egyptian Museum is STILL not open to the public - we just got our final detailed tour itinerary info from Lindblad and we will be visiting the Antiquities Museum instead.  Too bad as that new museum looks like it will be amazing when it does open.

We are in Safaga for Luxor in October, but only for 1 day.

Appreciate the nice and follow-up from acadian_dad of "Wonderful photos that you took!".

For alibabacruisers from Australia, having just one day for Safari/Luxor is challenging.  It is a long, long drive from the port on the Red Sea in going to Luxor and back.  All in only one day!!  But, the "prize" is worth it.

Below are some more visual to prove it.  Assume after your long trip to Luxor that you are sailing south for several days in Red Sea. Right?  Does that give you time to rest up from all of that driving over and back?

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

First below is a typical view seen on the long drive from the port to Luxor.  Kind of interesting, but not that unique and dramatic:

As we got closer to the Nile and Luxor, below are a variety of "sights" for folks in this area, people traveling around, etc., etc.  Interesting to see and sample a part of "real life" in this part of Egypt.:

From the London/UK Times this past week, they had this headline: Egypt is currently one of the cheapest places to visit with these highlights:Although it has long been a good value destination, a massive currency devaluation in recent months, coupled with prices becoming more competitive due to a reduction in Chinese, Russian, Ukrainian and American tourists, has turned Egypt into the bargain of the season — provided you avoid big international brands and all-inclusive packages that have already fixed prices.  Travel independently, eat, drink and shop locally, and you’ll not only be putting cash directly into the pockets of locals and making your own adventure, you’ll save a packet too. Most activities are priced in euros and dollars so are unaffected by currency changes.

Here is another detail shared from their story: "The imminent opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, slated for later this year, will shift Cairo’s centre of gravity for visitors out to the Giza plateau, also home to the Pyramids. The capital is a maelstrom of traffic, so retreating to Giza in the evening is a good plan, especially since the metro takes just six minutes. In the historic centre of Cairo, there’s everything from fragrant spices to stained-glass lamps in the famous Khan el-Khalili bazaar, where the traders are disarmingly well versed in rhyming slang."

Heading to Cairo in 2.5 weeks. Spending a little over week in Cairo/Hurghada and then 12 days on a Viking Nile cruise. It has been a challenge navigating currency, clothing and the likes but I’m excited and sure it will be worth it. Seeing the pyramids and snorkeling in the Red Sea definitely a bucket list trip. I heard the new museum is open but still limitations.
