Marina cancels visit to Falklands

Understanding that landing at the Falklands is a crap shoot, do the odds change with the type of ship one is on (R ship vs. O ship vs. mainstream 2000+ PAX) or does it not matter because in the end it's all tender boats which are basically all the same anyway?

They have a pier - but the winds won't allow ships to either leave the pier or to dock.

Are you on board? The itinerary (and the port schedule) suggests that Marina arrives in Ushuaia on 30th Jan. Right now there are several large ships similar in size to Marina in port. Not sure if your information is correct.

Came from Punta Arenas.  Windy as hell.

 

Not on Oceania.  Commenting about the folks that want a pier in the Falklands so ships can dock.  Docks, in and of themselves, are not a complete solution.

It's all tenders.  And those are pretty much equivalent, though differences exist.

 

Most of the issue is in the loading and unloading of the tender.  Then, the effect of the seas on the passengers once inside the tender.  You've seen how loading/unloading can be dicey even in calmer waters, as the tender bobs and weaves.  Now up the waves and toss in significant winds.

There is no ship of equivalent size to Marina, other than perhaps the Viking Jupiter  Next largest is the Hamburg.

Accepted. Are you on Marina? Why the itinerary change? As I said, port info & ship itinerary suggests arrival on 30th in Ushuaia not today. Puzzled about the discrepancy, that’s all.
