A few Panorama questions.

First off THANKS IN ADVANCE as I know these questions have been asked before (possibly to ad nauseam) so I appreciate you helping me out!!!

I just had a few random questions for the Panorama.

Our Itinerary is 2 days at sea, PV, Maz, Cabo, day at sea.....Which night is the FIRST formal night is it day at sea#1 or day at sea#2?  Is second formal night Cabo night?

Can someone please give me a dumbed down explanation for the elevator system?  I have read explanations and am still confused.

What are the costs for activities such as the skyride, trampoline park and ropes course? (group of teenagers who want to do it ALL...lol)

Is there a place in PV near by off the ship to just go eat, play on the beach and do a bit of shopping? (Similar to when you get off in Cabo and can go do Medano Beach) I have been to PV many times but always did an excursion previously.

THANK YOU!!!!

I'll start with the elevator.

  • Inside the elevator there are NO floor buttons.  The route is predetermined.
  • Outside: There are NO UP or DOWN buttons.
  • There is a kiosk.  There you push the floor you want to go to.  You push the floor once for each member of your group (four people, four pushes).  This manages the load and when one elevator is deemed full it will assign the next one.  You have no say in this.
  • The kiosk will tell you which elevator to take.
  • You wait.... and wait... and wait... for your elevator to arrive.

When the floor is crowded I found it was better to just take the stairs.  You have no idea how long you will be waiting.  There is no feedback like the glass elevators which show what floor it is on.

Now I wouldn't use this as a determining factor between one ship or another, but personally I did not like this system at all.

I sailed Nov 2022.

THANK YOU.....I do understand a bit better, now we will see how well I take to it in real life LOL

The elevator system is really not that bad  just FYI.  a elevator usually comes in a reasonable time unless the lobby is super busy.

there is no charge for the skyride, ropes course.  the trampoline park  is in a different area of the ship and there is a charge i forget the exact price but i think it was somewhere around 7.00

I think it was in PV. where the Carnival  ship docks  there was a little shopping plaza and there is a sign that states Beach right outside with metal fencing.  DONT goto that beach  we walked about 30 min down that beach and there are zero services.  It seems to be a beach only for the hotels and we couldnt even determine if we could just leave our towels on the sand and go in the water.

I believe the formal nights will be the first sea day and the Cabo day since you’ll leave the port early in the afternoon.

There is a restaurant in PV, El Bucanero right outside when you exit the ship next to the flea market.

It has good margaritas, chips, salsa & guacamole. I was there last November. There is a shopping area there as well.

As said above the sky ride and ropes course are free along with all the games in Sports Square, Clubhouse and mini golf.  My memory is that the Sky Zone was $15 to $18 for the regular jump and around $25 for the glow in the dark one they do at night, they give you a glow in the dark T shirt to keep with that one. That young staff that runs it are very high energy, it can get a bit rough and there is a lot of joking around, my grandson had a ball. He’s only 9 but they have different times for different age groups , little ones, school age and teens/adults. You need to make a reservation through the Hub app and if you are sailing during a busy season when there are lots of kids make them early in the cruise.

Your teens and you will LOVE the Panorama, there is so much to do. The elevators only seemed to be a problem the first day, you just need to push the floor button for each person in your group. The deck parties are must dos for all, especially the 80s Rock & Glow, I brought some glow in the dark baseballs from the Dollar Tree for the kids, they were a big hit. Formal nights are Sunday and Thursday after Cabo and I hear they have moved the lobster from the the first formal night to the second.

One more thing on our cruise when you check in for Your Time Dining you always get a 10 minute wait time estimate but that is what the estimate always says and it can be a bit or a lot longer, especially on formal nights. So be ready to go but don’t go to the dining room until you get the your table is ready notice. The entrance to the dining room was clogged up with people waiting because they believed the estimate. Also if you go down to the third deck entrance it is not as crowded. Have a blast, I am sure you will!

I have a question about your time dining on the Panorama. Are the tables for two very close together? Are there any tables for two that have some privacy? Also, are there any tables for two on the railing on the upper deck 4 of the aft dining room, assuming this is anytime dining in that level.

Thanks so much.

Yes most are very close together.  However, I travel solo and always ask for one along the railing.  I’m willing to wait if necessary, but never do.  Just ask when you get to the desk, or if they take you to one you don’t like just say no and they will a accommodate  you. The ones along the walls or railings are great.

In my experience yes, they are uncomfortably close, it’s the same on the Vista and Radiance also. Thank you cruising from Vegas for the tip on tables to ask for, I will definitely do that in the future. The awkwardness of the seating in the MDR is the main reason we don’t eat many meals there when cruising by ourselves. We were on the Panorama with the family and it was fine as a group.

With the elevators you just go to the kiosk and select a floor (tap the floor number 3 times for 3 guests etc). It will tell you what elevator to go to. That elevator will only go to that floor (unless it stops to let someone on), there’s no buttons to push once inside. I saw a number of people just randomly jumping into whatever elevator was open and hoping it was close to where they were going to because they were too impatient to wait. One day a young couple raced into my elevator and proceeded to ask me where it was going. I told them deck 14 and you should have seen their faces. They were late for dinner and didn’t even check to see if the elevator was going up or down. As I got off at my floor the woman sighed and told her husband “well at least we know what goes up must come down.” Her husband replied “yeah but how many floors is it going to stop at before it gets to deck 3?” The moral of the story: use the kiosk. 😉

We just sailed on the Panorama and found the elevators quite useful.  However, too many people - especially groups - failed to read or figure out the system, so the elevators were often overloaded because they failed to press the floor they were going to for the number of people in their group.  There is also a button on the kiosk when someone needs wheelchair access for the elevator.  It was a bit odd not having any buttons inside the elevator to push and several times there was a discussion about having one labeled with something like "this button does absolutely nothing but pushing it may relieve stress at not having any buttons to push"!   LOL!

We had an excellent cruise with stellar service, wonderful weather and itinerary, great entertainment and excellent food.  The Panorama also had a separate viewing area with flat screens and plenty of seating to watch sports - which was a smart idea and well-used.  Two disappointments were the size of the entertainment venue, the Liquid Lounge because the size of the bar and bar seating took up a lot of other seating.  Also, there was no separate smoke-free casino like we enjoy on the Breeze and Dream, so we spent very little time there - which was probably a good thing.

This was our first time sailing out of Long Beach and on the Panorama.  We chose it for the itinerary, which did not disappoint.   If you port in Puerto Vallarta, the Rhythms of the Night excursion is a must-see, but book it early because it seems to sell out each cruise.

LaRue 1975 is correct about the formal nights and moving the lobster to the 2nd formal night.

Hope this info helps.

Take care and happy cruising.
