Open/anytime dining

We are booked on the Zaandam for the Grand South America Cruise October 7, 2023.  It has been a while since we have done a HAL cruise so I feel like we will have to learn "the ropes" all over again.  The first question I have is we are scheduled for open dining.  I have been reading that it is best to sign up for a time before we even board, but I am unable to find how to do that.  Can it be done on the website, or can it only be done thru the app (I am unable to download the app on my phone.  I get a message that it is not compatible with my phone)?

My understanding is that making a reservation for open seating is only available on the ship. 

When you board you can likely see someone at the entrance to the dining room, can see someone at the general podium that handles all dining reservations, or can call.

For Android phones, the app requires Android 10 or up. Don't know about iPhones, no mention in the app info.
