skwir Posted March 8, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 8, 2006 The ship is on Delaware avenue. If you exit I-95 at Washington Ave, you at Washington & Delaware Ave. Turn south Delaware Ave (the river is on the left)and you only need to go a few blocks to the ship

Ask4Jay Posted March 8, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 8, 2006 PE: Go to ikea.com and find their South Philadelphia store. The upper right hand corner of the IKEA logo (on the map) seems to point directly at the ship. She is just across S. Columbus Blvd (formerly known as Delaware Ave.) She is not in a good spot for picture taking, such as a fence and other tall structures that did get into my way, plus she is in poor shape. You may get a shot from IKEA's restaurant on the 2nd floor.

CruisinMK Posted March 11, 2006 #10 Share Posted March 11, 2006 Wow I had no idea the history behind this ship was so interesting. This looks way more worthwhile to revive than the S.S. norway
Dolphins Posted March 11, 2006 #11 Share Posted March 11, 2006 I hope that NCL will restore this great old girl.[/quote Extremely unlikely. It would cost too much to convert her propulsion system from steam to diesel. The ship lacks the modern conveniences passengers have come to expect like balcony cabins. We live in an era where cruise lines are looking to replace ships only 20 years old. Makes little sense to bring back a 50 year old dinosaur. Her likely fate is as a hotel, museum or scrap.
