How bad is a cabin on deck 1?

I stayed in one of the last rooms on deck 1 of Sunshine, as far aft as you can go - I think I was in room 1630 or something like that if you want to look it up on the deck plan. The noise from the engines wasn't too bad really. And I didn't notice any really bad vibration either.

The only issue was the thrusters and ropes when docking. That was quite loud and jarring, but only lasted for a few minutes during each docking/undocking operation. The bad thing is docking was typically done fairly early in the morning, so it was a free alarm clock.

All things considered I'd stay on deck 1 again, but only if the room was considerably cheaper than other options, or if it was a last minute booking and I didn't really have another choice (which was the case when I stayed on deck 1 on Sunshine).

While I aggree with the above poster on an aft interior, I typicly get something in the mid ship or front when on Riviara deck. I do like riviara deck fro when we get back from port, only one deck up the stairs and don't have to fool with the elevators.

I imagine that midship is much different than aft or forward on deck 1, you're far enough away from the thrusters you shouldn't hear much.

And of course each deck you go up the less and less chance you'll hear/feel anything at all.

I typically prefer to stay on decks closer to the casino and Lido so I'm less elevator-dependent as well, but when I'm booking last-minute or just want to be on the ship and don't really care where I stay, I'm OK with staying on deck 1.

We stayed on deck one on the Miracle, mid ship, ocean view.  A few nights we heard from really loud banging (not sure what it was).  Woke us up once or twice.

We booked deck one on the Miracle again for May since we got a casino offer so I guess you could say it wasn't bad enough to deter us from staying there again. 🙂

It wasn't too bad last time I was on deck 1. However, what sucked was they literally closed most cabins and the floor due to COVID and we were right next to the isolation cabins. That really bothered me. They moved infected passengers down to deck 1 and closed the doors to the aft section.

You will get different answers on this question depending on the ship for sure. It will be tolerable to intolerable. I suggest avoiding the immediate forward or aft on lower decks on all ships.

It's TERRIBLE.  Never book down there!  Steerage. 😉

I made the mistake to an elderly lady in an elevator once. Promoting steerage as in the movie, Titanic.

The lip lashing that followed was a bit over board.😬

Usually we try to stay away from the back of the ship on any deck.  You very often you will get vibration all the way to the top decks (and again it depends on the ship but most I have been on felt it) .  I have sat in the dining room up on high decks on the back of the ship and watched my water glass vibrate across the table.

Under the show lounge you will hear some noise.  We usually always go high (9-10-11), but did a "down and dirty" cruise last month last minute and got a room on deck 3 under the show lounge.  It wasn't really bad, but while the show was going on if I was laying in bed I could slightly "feel" the bass, I wear ear plugs so couldn't hear it, but could feel it and hear it in my head if that makes any sense.  Not terrible, but it was there.

I will say we really liked the room though overall and I would book it again. It was an inside room with walkway view.  We were looking at the outside deck that runs the length of the deck on deck 3.  Room was very quiet, placement for accessing stuff was nice (especially getting on and off the ship).  And having the window for an inside price was great, and the room had a couch too, which insides do not normally.

There were several times that the only way we were able to be on the ship were to be on the lower decks (1 or 2) - some times this was a cost issue and sometimes it was joining a group at the last minute.    I feel the same way about lower decks that I do about Inside vs. balconies - they are all "eh" to me.   My first choice is to be on the ship - regardless of where 🙂  then I start getting picky - I always pick the midship room vs aft or forward, and then start moving up or down decks and in or out.  I dislike being forward or aft, as I tend to feel more movement in both those cases (and this seems to apply to be in large or smaller ships, your mileage may vary)

I do feel vibrations the lower we are, but nothing disruptive, and nothing loud. (Again, we do our best not to stay aft or forward though)

I haven't enjoyed staying right below the lido decks on some ships - literally heard deck chairs being dragged around what seems like all night and I swear the halls in the higher floors have a sewer smell to me.  My preferred floor tends to be around 5-8 depending on the size of the ship, but again, I haven't seen a room I'll turn down if it means I can go along for the ride! 🙂  Enjoy the trip either way!

Stayed on deck 1, interior with portholes aaaalllllllll the way up front.  Like a previous poster said, the rattling and loud engine noise (like a lawnmower) when we were docking was nearly unbeatable but it did get us out of bed and started with our day.
