Carry On Totes

When boarding the ship, how big can your carryon luggage be? Does it have to be a certain size to go through the x-ray machine? I have a fairly large piece and just wondering if it will be alright..............we are driving to port so didn't have to worry about it being too large on a plane.

Please mention the name of the cruiseline when asking questions. Things do vary line to line.:)

On Carnival, for instance, your carry-ons cannot be larger than 11"x17" to be able to fit into the x-ray opening. I know that seems small, but that is height and width, and can be any length.

If it won't fit into the opening, you will have to take it back down to the porters to check it with other luggage.

It's a different ballgame with a CTN. I took a larger piece of luggage then, as well. On CTNs, since you are required to carry your own luggage on board, they apply different rules; otherwise on longer cruises, luggage over those dimensions of 11x17 must be checked with the porters.:)
