Sundays in Valletta and Medina

Recommended Posts

As luck would have it, my first two visits to Malta were both on Sundays. It will be quiet on Sunday morning and many shops will be closed; however, I found that things tended to open up in the afternoon.

The Co-Cathedral will be closed to visitors as it is an active church.

One of the two times I went early to Mdina and it was a ghost town. Very few people around and little was open. Just as I was getting ready to leave and head back to Valletta things began to stir, around noon to 1pm.

The other time, I made reservations in advance and visited the famous underground Hypogeum (prehistoric) and the nearby Tarxien temples (also prehistoric) -- these were open on Sunday morning. For the Hypogeum they only allow a few people down each hour to protect the site, pre-reserving tickets is a must.
