Charged a drink before getting onboard

Now that they don't give the cards in the terminal and its at your room, and the rooms aren't ready until 1pm or whatever, you just tell the bartender your room.  You could pick any room for that matter.  I am sure someone made a mistake and gave the wrong room, or the bartender misheard, but there are thieves everywhere

Is that actually how it works before getting the S&S cards? The passenger simply tells the bartender their cabin number without showing any kind of document? I'm not saying you're incorrect, but I find that very hard to believe. I would think the bartender would want to see some kind of documentation of their cabin number.

That's not how it works. Until you get your Sail & Sign cards at your cabin you use your boarding pass for any purchases. They will scan the barcode on it. No way you can get a drink just telling a bartender your room number. 😎

Thanks, that makes a lot more sense to me. Otherwise, i'd think a lot more people would be throwing out bogus cabin numbers for free drinks on Embarkation day!

Sorry, I mix things up with royal alot.  Royal just asks for room number.  I can say for sure in the casino on carnival they ask for my room number, but at that point, I have already shown my card in the days before and he knows I get free drinks, no reason to lie.

I just came from a princess medallion cruise.  The one thing that irked me is that I never got a receipt and after checking my portfolio, they would charge all drinks ordered to my portfolio.   Then I'd get cut off but they would say no worry and charge it to my travel companions account.

So the last time I sailed with carnival, we got receipts that we had to sign.   I will have the cheers package, can I expect to get receipts now?

And how soon do charges show up on the portfolio?

This happened to me on the Celebration last week. I went to a bar to grab a drink & was told I had to wait 5 mins between drinks. I hadn’t had a drink in a couple hours. The bartender said I had just purchased a drink in the dining room 2 minutes earlier & then immediately corrected the issue. There was a 0% chance I had made it from the dining room 6 floors down & on the opposite end of the ship in 2 minutes so he knew it was a mistake. My card never left lanyard so it was very clearly an error on the dining staff taking down the wrong folio number.
