Families, I am sure look for the best price they can afford.people should be able to get decent food etc. without booking a suite and yes, we can afford a suite but many cannot.

They do provide decent food.  It isn’t 5 star.  But isn’t bad.  And people can pay extra for specialty dining if they want it.  What’s wrong with that.  
 

30-40 years ago cruising was too expensive for most. Now it is cheaper than 30 years ago.  What do you expect.

This! If I wish to make a mark for the beginning of 4* EU hotel experience standards, I would to clearly say that day was the day RCI launched it's Voyager class back in 1999. From there onward it was the slow approach that led contemporary mainstream lines to become mostly like just every EU 4* like hotel property out there coupled with some exclusive cruise distinctive elements. Before that it used to be 5* EU land hotel standards for everyone. Times change, so does the cruise industry as a whole.

But no one has to pay extra.  A family can choose to spend nothing extra and eat healthy and good food all cruise long.  
 

The complaints are it’s not as good as it used to be or the variety is less.  That doesn’t mean it is bad.  And when it is less than good, all it takes is to ask for something else.  

 

Folks saying that there wasn’t honey dew melon or a no blue cheese crumbles doesn’t mean what is available is bad.  Or that such situations are fleet wide.  Comments such as these many not even be complaints, just observations.  And even if they were complaints, there will always be complaints no matter what. So I filter most complaints out because I used to hear them all the time when I thought the food was great.

I very much agree.  After 7+ years of no cruises, we sailed on the Anthem for this past 2/4 cruise.  The staffing was the biggest difference to me, and this accounted for the less than clean public restrooms, and comparatively lower number of staff serving drinks and waiting tables in the Windjammer. The staff were indeed friendly, but many seemed distracted and as you say, frazzled.  People power means everything!
