Rare Wildcatllamas Posted February 28, 2023 #1 Share Posted February 28, 2023 I am looking at this cruise for 2024 and have some questions for those who have done it. I have never sailed outside of Hawaii, the West Coast or the Caribbean so this will be all new to me. I have been thinking about getting a Sea Terrace on what would be the South side of the ship going over so I could relax in the hammock and read while getting some sun. Then I thought it might make the cabin to warm. So would love some feed back on this. I noticed on my other cruise on Scarlet that my cabin never really cooled off like what I like. Living at 8200 feet in the mountains of Colorado, I handle cold way better then I do hot. Like leave my bedroom window cracked open all year long. My other question is I get motion sickness - like riding in the back seat and backing out of a driveway = violent ill. On my first cruise I swore never again - even with Bonine. Now 15 years later and I am still cruising, but now I take ginger along with the Bonine. Hoping that will be enough being out there on the open ocean. I'm also thinking either train from Lisbon to Paris so I can see the country side but it looks like it is a 19 hour trip. So maybe a flight would be better. My boss isn't happy about me taking 2 weeks off, but I figure I have been with the casino for 21 years by that time, so I deserve to take an extra long vacation from the craziness. Any tips, suggestions, ideas will be greatly appreciated for this trip. Thanks everyone!!!!
Rare cantgetin Posted February 28, 2023 #2 Share Posted February 28, 2023 VV has not done a SanJuan to Lisbon cruise before, so no one can comment from the perspective of having done it. We did the October 2022 BCB to MIA. Your balcony will have an overhang, so you will be shaded. We had no problem with the cabin getting warm--you have both a sheer drape and a black out curtain to keep the sun out of the room. These can remain closed while you are on the balcony. If you keep the balcony door open, the AC automatically shuts off. Motion sickness is very individual. My experience on 8 or 9 TA crossings is that they are no different than any other cruise. We've had totally smooth seas or occasionally a little choppy, but never bad....but each cruise is different.
jon81uk Posted February 28, 2023 #3 Share Posted February 28, 2023 When we did the westbound transatlantic last October the worst weather and rough seas was the strait of Gibraltar between Malaga and Madeira. So stopping in Lisbon I expect you will have calmer seas.
Freelancer3 Posted February 28, 2023 #4 Share Posted February 28, 2023 To compensate for motion sickness, I would suggest getting a cabin midship decks 8-10 (something like 10 154). If you go lower than deck 8, some cabins have a lifeboat directly below or blocking the view.
Rare cantgetin Posted February 28, 2023 #5 Share Posted February 28, 2023 10 154Z is a wheelchair accessible cabin. Please do not request that unless you need it. 10 154A is a normal cabinI. Totally agree that ship's motion is less the more midship you are and the lower you are. I get horribly sick on small boats, in the backseat of cars, etc....but no problem on the newer ships which have great stabilizers.
