Question re: airline credits and Cancel For Any Reason insurance

I have Cancel for Any Reason insurance and just had to cancel two flights related to a cruise. The airlines said the tickers are nonrefundable, but that they automatically have to issue a credit for a future flight upon cancelation. 

 

Would that preclude me from getting my 75% back under a Cancel For Any Reason claim? Has anyone ever successfully declined a future credit when cancelling a flight? Thanks for any information you all can provide.

I've seen many people successfully refuse a future credit. Each airline is different, so find out from your airline if it can be done.

I don't know how they did it. Delta and AA absolutely would not budge.

As Steve said "Each airline is different, ..." and while I do not know for sure, Delta and AA are only two (2) airlines, what about the others???

 

Apparently he, Steve, has encountered airlines who will allow refusal of future credits, after all they stand to keep the unused airfare vs your getting only 75% (max) of the airfare back.

 

Besides, I can see it as a massive headache for Delta and AA to keep track of who got what and/or did not... how does one prove they did not receive a FC when their systems show it was issued and etc....???
