MykeN Posted March 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2006 I have seen in a few threads the mention of horse races. What are they actually? I am sure there are not real horses on-board but it does sound interesting:)
Nitra Posted March 11, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 11, 2006 I have never figured it out totally but have seen it happening. Early in the week a team bids on a "horse" I believe then all week they decorate and drive up support for their "horse" and then when they have the races pool side you get to bet on the horses. It is pretty wild time. Maybe someone can explain it better.
MykeN Posted March 11, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted March 11, 2006 Is the "horse" a person or an object?

DALSAL Posted March 11, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 11, 2006 The horse races are SO much fun! You have owners, trainers and jockies.I think the first cruise I was on,there were 5-6 "horses".People take this very seriously and bring all kinds of things to decorate their stick horse...huge sunglasses, hat, anything cute to dress a stick pony up.Not to mention the cute jockies that ride these ponies. The owner takes the "horse" everywhere trying to get ppl to bet on his/her horse. Then, its just like the horse races and you bet how much ever money to win, place or show. They have squares down on the concrete and use bingo balls to advance the horses.Everyone is pool side yelling and cheering their horse on! Its a lot of fun! I was told that Princess doesnt do these races now that Carnival has taken them over since someone from the casnio has to conduct them because of the betting...I was disappointed, but maybe on my RCI in July! :) Dot

Don Pedro Posted March 11, 2006 #9 Share Posted March 11, 2006 We are certainly not experts on the subject, but we have been around some folks who take the horse races as a serious shipboard endeavour. Bidding for a horse will usually cost a team a couple hundred dollars and having the winner can be worth well over a thousand dollars plus the potential for more by placing bets. Hope someone who really knows about the horse races will detail the costs, winnings and the bidding and betting procedures.
