Time for flight home from Fort Lauderdale

What I love about Miami and Fort Lauderdale home ports is the facial recognition software Customs/Immigration are using now.  So much faster!

It would be great if Miami had Global Entry kiosks.  Not sure why it doesn’t.  Disembarked NCL 3/11 and process was very slow.  Terminal reps worked lines seeking out flyers with flight departure times that might be in jeopardy.  You needed to show a boarding pass and when you did you were diverted to a special line.

Of course, if Miami had GE, the long lines probably would have simply moved outside.

We never buy the cruise line airport transfer.  On the NCL disembark day we noticed so many people wearing Airport Transfer IDs.  We kept wondering how in the world NCL could handle that many.  As it turned out, it really wasn’t able to do so.  Outside there were long lines as these pax waited and waited for buses.  On an NCL thread, some pax said they gave up and took a taxi.

it's opposite day. how do you kill time till a 6pm flight and take care of bags at the same time

we had 5 pm flights before... We waited on the ship for a max allowed time, then took a taxi, stood in line to drop off luggage (usually within 4 hours beforehand, but Spirit used to be a lot less rigid about it before the pandemic), then went through security, lounged around at FLL, had lunch, read books, browsed internet... It wasn't too bad. Now there is a 2 pm return flight which we enjoy more.

Found MCO to be a lot more "lounging before going through security" friendly than FLL. Didn't get to lounge at MIA, so no opinion.

In January, disembarking from our Odyssey cruise, we had a 3 pm flight booked. But, we arrived at the airport before 8 and were able to change our flight and get on the earlier one at 9! Much better!!!

Similar experience when we cruised Odyssey over Thanksgiving....Had a 10:30 am flight. Disembarked ship at 8am (could had gotten off earlier) and was at curb outside terminal in 20 min....at Airport at 8:40....Going thru TSA was longer than disembarking and taking cab to Airport!!

Once again the Skycap is the answer, they will take your bags hours before the airline will accept them. We have dropped off our bags at 10am for a 6:30 flight at FT. Lauderdale, then hop on the trolly to get into downtown.
