MUSTER DRILL

In May of 2022 on Scarlet Lady we had to report to the muster station for the drill.

From reading on here recently it seems like this is no longer required and the requirement can be met by watching the video in your room.

Anyone recently sailing, please share your experience.

in October 2022 and August 2022 we still had to do both, watch the video and then go to the muster point in person.
Pretty certain there is a legal requirement.

The end of November '22 sailing still had the video/in-person check-in. It was a total mess for us. Find out what is your muster station BEFORE heading over. The crew seemed like they knew less of the process than we did. But, after 30 minutes of going to different stations, we found ours and the rest of the cruise was enjoyable.

In our sailings so far you had to watch the video on the app or on the TV in your room. Once complete you had to go watch a life jacket demonstration in person at your muster station. Participation was tracked by scanning your band. Boarding Scarlet today, will let you know if anything has changed.

It tells you at the end of the video what the muster station is I think. It’s also on the back of the cabin door.

I would agree it is much easier to watch the video in your room, know where the muster point is and then go.

On some other lines, everyone has to go to the muster station at the same time and watch a long demo.

On VV, you watch the video in your room on the TV or anywhere around the ship on the app.  We did it while waiting for food in The Galley.  At the end, it tells you where you muster station is.  You click the button that says you have watched it.  Then, about 4pm, they announce that that muster stations are open--you have about a 90 minute space where you have to appear.  It is NOT everyone has to be there at 4 and you have to wait till everyone has checked in.  It is more like 20 people check in and they do a 5 minute live demo of how to wear a lifejacket and tell you to come here if you get the emergency signal.  We were able to be seated the whole time.  When they finish, you get up and leave and they take the next group of however many have appeared while they were doing your group.  About 5:15 they announce that there are still people who have not appeared and please get to your muster station so we can start sail away.......I don't know what they do to the lovely individuals who don't show up.  Maybe toss them to the fishes?????

I will take VV way of doing it any time. The one and only trip on Carnival we were standing in the hot sun for over an hour while waiting for everyone to show up and check in. My friend and I were mushed back against the wall and they kept screaming at everyone to move back and get closer. I am mildly claustrophobic but combine it with the heat and being crammed together I started to feel faint. My friend hollered to the ship personnel that she thought I was going to faint and their response was to just deal with it. The man next to me grabbed me and pushed our way out of the crowd to the rail and now the personnel were having a fit. Princess, NCL and Celebrity aren't bad but watching the video in the cabin and then strolling down to check in was a piece of cake.

You MUST report to the Muster Station, that's from the Coast Guard. You can watch the video in your room, then report to the muster station. If you refuse to do so, they can escort you off the ship.

Carnival has the e-muster now. We did that last March, easy peasy.

That's good to hear. That was only one of so many things that made that cruise a "one & done". To many to list but suffice it to say that my friend and her husband were loyal and high tier Carnival fans. After that cruise - they never sailed Carnival again. They and I had plans to sail on Virgin and then she passed away. He and I sailed and he found a new like. He still loves Princess but Virgin has also won his heart.

I read today that NCL has gone back to e-muster, which is supposedly "more expensive."  They had e-muster for a while, then went back to the mob scene....and now, it seems back to e-muster based on cruiser demand.

Yes, you must report to your muster station and check in on VV...but you are there for less than 10 minutes and no mob scene.  DCL had the most organized "in person" muster I've seen, but they, too, are now e-muster.

MSC has an at-the-same-time muster. Not only must you watch the video in your room but then you have to place a call on your room phone to acknowledge, then go to your muster station along with everyone else at the same time to watch the life jacket demo then it's done. The worst of the muster processes we've been through post-pandemic. Happy to hear that VV has a saner process.

Disney was doing e-muster right after the re-start, but they have gone back to in person.

Well, that's another reason I won't be sailing with them any time soon.  LOVED DCL for years....not so much any more.

No, it wasn't quite that bad. I watched the video and decided I didn't want to go to my muster station, so I didn't. I got a knock on my cabin door at around 9 PM. It was Captain Giovanni himself !!

He threw a velvet hood over my head and I then found myself in the ships chain locker. I was there for hours with nothing to eat but day old sushi. Next cruise I'll be sure to attend muster. I can still  taste that fish.

On Princess, for a few years now, you watch the video in your cabin then report to your muster station, have your medallion scanned and you are done. I'm sure all lines will be doing the video/report version eventually.

Celebrity is watch video then check in at the muster station. No need to stay for anything. They just need to check you off the list. Super easy.
