Rare drron29 Posted May 6, 2023 Author #802 Share Posted May 6, 2023 Then we visited the market. Rojaan was now getting tired and went back to the ship. I wanted a local lunch so headed back into the old town. Now In had picked out a restaurant for further consideration but do think I could find it? Not a chance. Went into a church that we didn't see previousy.

The Red Bull high diving competition takes place from the oof of the last house in the last picture. Really enjoyed the photos of Polignano as it brought me back to a wonderful land experience of that entire area. So many towns to explore. My grandfather was from Giovinazzo, outside of Bari, and I hope to get back there one day.
Rare drron29 Posted May 6, 2023 Author #804 Share Posted May 6, 2023 However I found a little restaurant in a back street which was a fair bit cheaper han those in the larger lanes and squares. Here is the menu. Not in order.
Rare drron29 Posted May 6, 2023 Author #805 Share Posted May 6, 2023 I originally ordered fried sardines to start but they were unavailable so I settled for the marinated Anchovies. They were absolutely delicious and cost 8 euros. In Dubrovnik the next day for the exact same size dish the cheapest price was 18.5 euros. I then had the mussels. They weren't the greatest mussels as they were small but it was sold by weight and was 13 euros for 800 gms. Most of the other restaurants were the same price for 500 gms. Ended up with 106 mussels. Also a basket of bread for 1 euro. And a 250 ml bottle of the dearest Montenegran wine was 6 euros. Service was excellent. The view of the laneway. And if you do want tofind it if you come in the main gate walk across the Square and if you see this sign turn left. The lane does take a couple of turns.
Rare drron29 Posted May 6, 2023 Author #806 Share Posted May 6, 2023 Now I did mention there are a lot of cats. Eating seafood naturally attracted them. In the pecking order this was the lowest. Notice the cork. all 3 cats attracted had a lot of fun playing with it. The number 2 cat tried a different tack. This was my seat. And here it is playing. But they both deferred to this cat. However it was the smartest and quickly knew I wasn't a cat lover. The most adventurous turnedout to be the white cat who stood on his hind legs with his paws on the table longingly looking at the fish. It was out of luck.
Rare drron29 Posted May 6, 2023 Author #807 Share Posted May 6, 2023 After lunch another quick look at the markets. Lots of dried mushrooms. The apricots and loquats looked nice and I was tempted but thought better of it. Then off to get the tender back to the ship.

Rare drron29 Posted May 7, 2023 Author #810 Share Posted May 7, 2023 Diner was again in La Terraza as we were dining with the hotel director Paolo. Once again it was with another Australian couple. The 4 of us had also had dinner with the Captain on the last cruise. It was a great night with lots of conversation. It naturally was Italian wines that were presented. I had the Pappardelle with duck ragu and the Branzino. Rojaan had the Carpaccio and the fish of the day. We all declined desserts.

Rare drron29 Posted May 7, 2023 Author #813 Share Posted May 7, 2023 Friday and we are in Dubrovnik. Rojaan's back acting up again so I went into town alone. No excursion really appealed. From our balcony as we anchored. The wind surf beat us there. As soon as the excursions had been tendered in I was on the first independent tender. I headed for the cable car. Up a lot of stairs. Then walked alongside the walls to the upper gate. Si views down the narrow laneways,
Rare drron29 Posted May 7, 2023 Author #814 Share Posted May 7, 2023 Now outside the inner walls. An easy walk up to the cable car and after parting with 27 euros was on my way.

Rare drron29 Posted May 7, 2023 Author #817 Share Posted May 7, 2023 The airport in the distance. To the south the mountains are the border with Montenegro and to the east Bosnia and Herzegovina. This caused massive problems for Dubrovnik in the 1990s war.

Rare drron29 Posted May 8, 2023 Author #821 Share Posted May 8, 2023 Next I embarked on my next adventure - walking the walls. First had to get over the shock of having to fork out 35 euros to inflict th pain of going up and down stairs on myself. Fortunately I have finally mastered the task of going up stairs which in recent years has caused a few tumbles as due to my peripheral neuropathy I have significant foot drop. Now with every step up I say to myself "lift" so I don't forget. Such a simple thing means once again I can go upstairs with confidence and do it in less time. So here I go.
