Finally catching up! Lots to catch up with.

That prime rib looked delicious to me!

Trieste and Ravenna look like a couple of places to add to our list though. The loss of Trieste to Italy after WWII is still a sore subject in Slovenia. And one that I was unaware of, until our visit to Slovenia last year.

At this point another large group of school children noisily barrelled their way through our group.

Of course, as a child, I would never do such a thing 😇

Though in Trieste they are very happy that the NZ troops arrived not long after Tito's forces liberated Trieste. That meant they ended up part of Italy rather than Yugoslavia.

Trieste of course was handed to the Italians after WW1 when they were part of the Allied forces. The borders were finally settled in 1975 with the treaty of Osimo. Quite a few Italians were very upset that Istria was handed to Slovenia and wanted to charge the Italian PM and Foreign Minister with treason.

Interestingly our guide in Trieste was born in Slovenia but emigrated to Trieste to escape communism. Whilst our guide in Piran says the best leader Slovenia has had was Marshal Tito.
