Taormina questions

Recommended Posts

As anyone had any experience with Sicily Life? Do we need a private driver or can we do this on our own? The cruise brochure says there are limited taxis near where we tender and Taormina is 6 or 7 miles away. We want to see as much as we can. Leaving in four days, so would appreciate prompt responses.

The major problem will be getting up to Taromina (the cruise line should have arranged some kind of bus service and there are taxis). Once in Taormina, I would think anyone who paid for a guide or tour would feel somewhat ripped-off. Its a relatively small cliff-top resort town with only 1 main street (loaded with shops, restaurants, and some cafes) with a smaller 2nd street (off to your left from the square just inside the entrance) which leads up to the nearby AmphiTheatre. You can walk through the entire town in about 2 hours. This is a real resort village, and you will have no problem with language barriers. All the restaurants have English menus and many of the Sicilians speak and understand some English.
