Just make sure your mobile data is switched off, then you will not be charged. You could also put your phone into flight mode if that is easier.

If you are going to use your phone on the P&O app, you will need to have wi fi on as well as airplane mode, and as long as mobile data is off you wont incur any extra charges.  Other than making or accepting calls or sending text messages while at sea.

Which costs a small fortune on the ship's service.  I always switch my voicemail off before sailing just in case someone calls when I have it on, once got caught and ended up with a £15 bill for someone telling me my car was due an MOT and service!
