Shareholder Benefit Questions - and a concern!

We bought 100 shares with Hargreaves Landsdown a month back.

E mailed P&O yesterday for our Jan 24 cruise, reply today that OBC has been applied. HL supply a pdf that I attached...so £150 OBC

Princess different story. E mail sent well before the cut off but nothing else heard, they won't answer the phone and the cruise is 11 days away.

P&O appear to be getting a grip of things now aggressive pricing, decent customer service.

The document in the Carnival Annual Report that outlines shareholder benefit suggests that the OBC can be administered by TAs. Has anyone had experience of doing this, as most people seem to mention emailing P&O? We use the specialist cruise TA that many regulars on here use.

Thanks for all the great advice. I’m buying the shares this morning as they dropped below £7 yesterday.

Never known that. What does happen is that when your request for obc is approved, the TA (or certainly the one you are talking about) will issue a new booking contract, that shows the amount of obc that you have been given.

Mine are with Freetrade, not paid any fees, emailed my monthly statement showing my carnival shares and new booking confirmation with extra obc was sent back following day. On my third cruise with the additional obc. Bought mine when it was about £8 but still happy 😀

I’ve tried and failed to use Freetrade. I downloaded the App and went through the whole registration process, only to end up with a screen saying “Almost there - This should only take a few minutes”, which I am still stuck with over half an hour later! If I try to log in, same message. I’ve delete the App and started again - same message. I just cannot progress and there’s no phone number for help. If it’s this hard to just set up an account then I don’t have the confidence that it will be easy to use for transactions or statements, so I think I shall have to try another provider!

Sorry to hear you had had trouble setting up Freetrade, I can’t remember having any issues like this when I went through the process to set up an account and buy my shares, hopefully one of the many other providers will be better for you.

I have found this email on the app for setting up accounts you could use hello@freetrade.io

Thanks for that. I’ve emailed them and had an auto response saying they will respond within 3 days. Sadly, I have no patience so will try elsewhere! Appreciate the advice though and glad that it worked well for you.

That’s interesting. Thanks. How easy is it to get the OBC credited (assuming that you don’t get a share certificate)?

Very easy. I use Hargreaves Lansdown and just copy and paste the information from my account details. Always applied in less than a day

Thanks. Might try them, as I failed with Freetrade 😂

I do the same. There is an option to create a .pdf file from my statement, blank out  anything that is not relevant and then paste it into an email to P&O.

The share price right now is down 1.25% at 696p.

Go to the HL Fund and share account. There are no ongoing charges to hold the shares .There is  dealing charge of £11.95 plus stamp duty.

There is a very good video in this section which explains the mechanics of share purchases.

My reply yesterday was as follows

Your shareholder benefit has been applied and a revised booking confirmation that will show the added on board credit has been sent.

As you have booked via a travel agent, you will need to refer to them for the revised booking confirmation.

I'm not sure if that's the way it normally works but it was so quick and easy I'll probably stick with it.

Thanks. All done and shares purchased. Quick question - I can access the Contract Note, which will hopefully allow my OBC to be added to the cruise we have just paid the balance on, but I just cannot see anywhere in the Fund and Share account where you can view a statement with the current date on, which I will need each time that I request the addition of shareholder OBC for future cruises. Any clues on where to find it? Thanks

That particular TA called me today to see if we wanted to make any pre-registrations, and I asked about shareholder OBC. The response was that they can administer the addition of the OBC if I send them proof of share ownership. I have done this and will see if it happens.

Open the HL Fund & Share account,

At the bottom click on “PDF version” This gives it in a format that is easy to edit and paste into an email to P&O

Selbourne I am quite surprised you are willing to share these details with a  stranger

I don’t see what the risk is? The only personal information on the document is my name and address, which the TA obviously has anyway (the TA not being a stranger). I trust the TA with my credit card details when I pay thousands of pounds for a cruise, so what is the risk of them seeing a document with nothing more on it than my name and address, plus confirmation that I own 100 Carnival shares? What am I missing?

Not sure what is going on here.

Sent our application on Monday pm, and got an automatic acknowledgment. E-mail back this morning (Thursday) confirming OBC had been credited,  and new paperwork from our favourite TA arrived this afternoon.

Not as good as P&O,  but still pretty good.

If, by any chance you don't get a reply from Princess, take copies of your emails and proof of share ownership when you go on your cruise,  and customer services may be able to sort you out.

Interesting - can you let us know how you get on.

Does it not have your share certificate no.?

When I pay I don't give my card number but key it in. Anyway due to husband's past job we are ultra cautious and don't trust anyone.

I should apologise though because after I posted I remembered you were an international business man and way above my level of expertise. Sorry

Normally you submit your share portfolio, with non-relevant information redacted

And a share certificate number, in itself is of no value.

I sense by your last comment that you may be being sarcastic, which is unfortunate as I certainly don’t claim to have expertise in this at all, which is why I’ve been asking so many questions! It was a genuine question as to what the risk was, as your post alarmed me for a few seconds until I double checked what I’d sent and confirmed that there was nothing personal beyond my name and address. No share certificate number as it’s a nominee account, where they don’t issue them. I agree that you have to be very careful these days though as there are definitely plenty of traps out there. That’s one of the reasons why I don’t use my name or give away anything identifiable on this forum.

Definitely not sarcastic

I always welcome your posts as they are so well constructed. Please I meant no offence. As you have pointed out no relevant information was given

Oh, Ok. Apologies if I overreacted then. International Business Man definitely overplays my part in life though! Thanks for your kind comment. I always find your posts helpful as well. Anyway, got the shares all sorted now. Just have to hope that I get the investment back via OBC before the company goes belly up (only kidding - hopefully😉).
