Manhattan Cruise Terminal?

Recommended Posts

It has been several years since we have sailed from Manhattan Cruise Terminal. We are sailing on the Carnival Venezia this summer and I can't for the life of me remember if there are stairs up to the security and boarding area. I am on oxygen now but do walk fine but slowly at this time, I can't manage climbing stairs.

Any information on this terminal will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

if you are being dropped off by car, there is no stairs and everything is the on the same level

if are arriving by a bus, there is an elevator to the 2nd level for the security and boarding area

Good information folks. We may be walking, would drop bags after 10:30 then going to the Intrepid prior to boarding for a few hours. If we come in the night before would walk from the hotel 10-15 minutes down on 48th., but check out is 11:00 don't want to hang around the terminal a few hours then wait more time for our cabin to be ready. We don't care about missing lunch we will have a nice breakfast at the hotel and will be fine until dinner.

Thank you both.

Hello,

We have cruised many times out of Florida where we live, but noticed you said you have left from Manhattan before. We know nothing about the area or where to stay for a night or so before the same cruise boat on Sept. 29 sailing. Any thoughts on the best airport to fly in and a hotel? Thanks so much:)

If you'll allow me to jump in, there's no "best airport". You have to look at airfares and flight schedules, as well as ground transportation options and costs to determine which airport works best for you.

There are hundreds of hotels in Manhattan and many neighborhoods to say in. Your budget, how many nights you're staying and what you are interested in doing when in New York will be determining factors. You don't have to stay close to the cruise terminal as it's easy and relatively inexpensive to get from most anywhere in Manhattan to the cruise terminal by taxi or Uber/Lyft.

If you're cruising this September you need to do your homework/research with a sense of urgency and book flights and hotels ASAP.

Perhaps just reiterating what has already been said, New York City is so much larger and diverse than anyplace else in the United States. You can be choosy as to what you want in a hotel, and with 125,000 rooms available, you're likely to find what it is you seek. Even during the largest conventions and other events you can hotel rooms (even if fewer rooms near the actual event site). Each of the airports is so large and hub of activity--most of which is oriented towards connections with midtown Manhattan--that there is no consensual "best" airport for every purpose. I might differ slightly from others as to urgency for planning for September--you won't need to sleep on a park bench if you don't book in advance--but the number of choices and rates might not be as good. In short, New York is not a one-industry city, but rather it has virtually everything.

I'd really suggest asking this in a separate thread as you really have multiple questions. The good news is your dates are after the UN General Assembly opening and New York Fashion Week. So that's two big hotel room eating events you're not competing with. I'll split the difference between GTJ and njhorseman that it's not urgent to figure this out, but don't linger too long. But anywhere in Manhattan is close enough to the terminal. After that it's what do you want to do and how much do you want to spend. And PLEASE once you find a hotel, price the total cost of transportation, ground and air, to Manhattan. Saving a couple of bucks into EWR with a large car service bill doesn't save money. Saving a couple of hundred into EWR could be a good deal even with the car service bill! Direct flights from Atlanta into LGA or JFK could be priceless...

We take the Amtrak from Boston to Moynihan Train Hall now (Penn Station). Several folks are staying at Holiday Inn Express West on 48th. Street. We haven't flown to NY but the east coast board has lots of answers to this question.
