Rare eileeshb Posted August 15, 2023 #51 Share Posted August 15, 2023 Another low pressure system building in the North Atlantic, doesn’t look like anything serious at the moment but could be enough to have some noticeable waves around the Irish west coast and Icelandic south coast at the end of this week. the first image is the pressure chart, the lower the number the deeper the depression, the more tightly packed the isobars the stronger the wind. The second show the wave height and the direction of travel for the waves.
NJoynCruisin Posted August 18, 2023 #52 Share Posted August 18, 2023 Are there any updates about Hilary in the Pacific? How will she impact the west coast Mexican cruises?

How will she impact the west coast Mexican cruises? Royal Caribbean's Navigator has a 3 night cruise to Ensenada. Probably a solid bet that the Ensenada stop on Sunday gets canceled. Emerald Princess, fresh off losing Lahaina as a port stop will probably lose Ensenada on Sunday, too. Carnival Radiance and Miracle hit Ensenada Saturday, so they will probably be OK. Carnival Panorama is on its way back from the Riviera now and is booking at full speed to stay ahead of the storm. riverrat Posted August 18, 2023 #54 Share Posted August 18, 2023 Hurricane Hillary : Expected to weaken to CAT 2 at landfall and drop three days of rain on S Cal and Nevada. First hurricane to hit S. Cal since 1939. If you have travel plans in this area keep an eye on the National Hurricane Center website. The visible on tropical tidbits shows impressive eye. smokeybandit Posted August 21, 2023 #59 Share Posted August 21, 2023 As of now only Franklin looks to have any possible impact on cruising as it cuts north tomorrow.
marci4tony Posted August 22, 2023 #60 Share Posted August 22, 2023 Way to go Franklin - Right over the top of Amber Cove. Thankfully, it should only be rain and light winds - could be a lot worse, but there are cruisers on Carnival Magic that would like you to go away peacefully. Think you could do that? Gotta love Hurricane Season.

Rare eileeshb Posted August 28, 2023 #62 Share Posted August 28, 2023 (edited) There's been a bit of drama in Mallorca where P&O's Britannia broke it's moorings and hit a freighter There are quite a few videos online showing the weather and a few from guests aboard Britannia but none so far show the actual collision. This is one of the video collections from Sky News This one from the telegraph shows the mooring line snap Suffice to say the stifling heatwave has broken with a vengeance Edited August 28, 2023 by eileeshb additional video
Rare eileeshb Posted August 28, 2023 #63 Share Posted August 28, 2023 Looking at the North Atlantic charts right now, it seems the western Mediterranean is fairly rough for the next couple of days, then the back half of the week it will be Greenland, Iceland and Ireland's turn. If you look at the sequence in the charts you'll see it's mostly coming off Franklin so our forecasters will just re-use that name. This is the time of year when Irish surfers suddenly develop an intense interest in US weather reports as those hurricanes generate great waves that arrive a day or two before the wind. The second image I zoomed in on the Mediterranean to show what's happening there at the moment.
