Chartered Flights

Thinking of booking an expedition cruise to Greenland.  Was told the international flight would be a chartered flight.  Would that be a regular commercial airline and how would business class service be?

No surprise that it's a charter.

 

The good thing is that a charter from the E coast saves a great deal of flight time.  Even flights into Nuuk (the largest of the airports there, and on the west coast of Greenland) from the U.S. wind up flying to places like Heathrow or Amsterdam first.  Seems there's just not enough demand for the airlines to supply a more direct route.

 

No telling what kind of aircraft the charter airline will use.  You'd have to query Silversea to see if they're willing to provide the details for whatever it is they've commissioned for the trip.  If you're lucky, someone here who has made that trip might be able to share whatever experience they've had in the past, but that would be no assurance of what you'll have for your trip.

Most likely, yes.  
 

Since a charter flight from Boston would only be about 20-minutes longer than a similar Antarctica charter between Santiago and Ushuaia, I imagine they’ll use one of Iceland Air’s all coach class 757s so that everyone is treated equally like they do when using LATAM’s all coach class A321s.

SS uses DAP/Antarctic Air for all charters on a BAe 146, short body, 4 engine planes.  Peurto Williams airport is way to short for a a32x.  Fun fact, they can’t take off from Puerto Williams with more then about 1h15m of fuel, or they would be too heavy.  They refuel in Punta Arenas.  And then land in Punta They likely used the A32x when they used Ushuaia.

 

I would assume Greenland would be similar, as the above was on an all coach class plane, they left empty all middle seats.
