If anyone is looking for something quite modest (NOT cushy) and a little quirky, Casual Arriaga might suit you.  I was planning to stay there a night until we changed our plans and didn't need to spend the night in Bilbao.  t's in a good location in Old Town and reasonably priced.  If you use Booking.com and specify Old Town, you can see other hotels in Casa Viega (Old Town).  And one thing I found useful for sightseeing was Tomsportguides.com, Bilbao guide.  And google Vizkaya Bridge between Bilbao and where cruise ships dock in Getxo - fascinating!

Is there any particular reason you specify Old Town? We disembarked in Bilbao May 2nd and stayed a few nights at Hotel Catalonia Gran Via. Loved the place. Would certainly stay there again. Walking distance to Guggenheim and Old Town and Gran Via is a wonderful shopping strip. JMHO.

Hi! We are coming in on  the afternoon the day before the cruise. We wont have that much time to explore Bilboa. I liked the  idea of the cafes, restaurants, and shopping all be outside our hotel. From the info on the internet it seemed the Old Town was the best spot for us!  What did you do in Bilboa that you'd suggest doing if you only had 24 hours?

Guggenheim, but use a tour guide. Can give you details of the one we used if you PM me.

Lunch at the food court in the Market next to the river in Old Town is lovely. Maybe catch the HOHO bus outside Guggenheim, get off at Market for lunch, then after lunch resume HOHO. You'll see all the sights that way.

We booked Hotel Miro in Bilbao as it seems to be a quick walk to Guggenheim and area cafes.  Looking forward to enjoying a bit of the city before we board ship.  Side note, if you are wanting to go to the Guggenheim, they are closed on Mondays (ship sails late Tues so that may be an option to get it in in time).
