Glaciers and Fjords of the Chilean coast in March '24

This is a cruise I booked three years ago but because of COVID it was cancelled. I finally found a cruise that just does the Chilean fjords on Seabourn’s new expedition ship leaving from Buenos Aires to Santiago which is what we wanted so we booked it. Everything I have read says it is amazing and the scenery is spectacular. But we have not done it so hopefully someone will give us more information.

We went through the Chilean fjords when we went to Antarctica and South Georgia in 2017 on Quest.  ( Santiago to BA).  They were beautiful but it was cold.  Highly recommend but as said before bring layers.

I have cruised between San Antonio Chile and Buenos Aires on Quest and on Holland America's Veendam. We viewed the glaciers and had port stops in Punta Arenas and Ushuaia. Great scenery, great cruises. The cruise from Ushuaia to San Antonio on Pursuit would be something different, no idea what happens in Yendegaia or Garibaldi Fjord, for instance.

What time of year did you go? We are going in March 2024 to the Chilean Fjords, and I was wondering about the weather and what kind of gear to pack.

We were on the holiday cruise from Santiago to Antarctica to BA.  (Dec 2017-Jan 2018)  I believe we were in the Chilean fjords in late December.  It was cold but we had great scenery.  Since we were on our way to Antarctica we had long underwear, multiple layers and the Seabourn supplied parka and jacket.  But we could view from our room, from the observation lounge on quest or outside.  We only needed the layers if we were viewing outside and we often ate lunch on the patio grill under the heaters with a blanket so we were fine.

We did the holiday cruise in 2015-16 and loved it. The Chilean fjords were amazing and we loved the (expensive) excursion to Torres del Paine. I will say that along the southern coast we experienced the roughest waters I've ever been in... Something like 7 meter beam seas. Very few folks out and about and multiple staff said it was the first time they'd ever been seasick. Quietest I've ever seen the MDR!
