Kimpton DeWitt Hotel

We wanted to stay at a different hotel post-cruise because it's fun to experience new hotels!

We chose the Kimpton DeWitt because it was centrally located and also had a room that met our needs.  It had lots of good reviews, too.  We booked what they call the "Little House" which used to be the home of Dutch playwright P.C. Hooft.  It's 3 stories, with a living room on the first floor, second bedroom (2 twins) and 1.5 bathrooms on the second floor, and master bedroom (king) and bathroom on the third floor.

To be honest, I wouldn't stay here again.  The room was not convenient, several things were broken (sliding bathroom door, light falling off wall, track for blinds falling off wall, etc.), and it did not feel clean.  We even found a dirty washcloth in the shower which had clearly not been cleaned prior to our arrival. 🤢  While it was close to lots of things, including Central Station, the streets behind the hotel were not our cup of tea.  It's not a bad hotel, just not the right hotel for us. 🙂

They did have a list of items you could borrow if needed.  We borrowed an adapter.  (You can even see how dirty the paper is. 😬)

We much preferred the Pulitzer as our room was clean and we liked the surrounding area better.

Final Thoughts:

We had an AMAZING trip.  All of our tours (with the exception of Berlin) were INCREDIBLE.

Our first impression of Celebrity was not the best.  From being kicked off the ship, to cancelling our dining reservations, to hot tub problems and weird restaurant hours, it was an experience.

The crew on the Apex was first class.  Everyone was so helpful and friendly, they literally saved our vacation.

Overall, we had such a wonderful time!  Thank you all for following along!

I still have to post daily planners, spa menu with prices, and tips we learned around the ship.  Will be posting over the next few days.  Still trying to catch up with "normal" life.

TIP:

When getting off the ship in port, you use Destination Gangway which is on deck 2.  You cannot take the elevator to deck 2-it dead ends and you can't walk through (at least coming from the forward).

You need to go to deck 4, then use the stairs in the Grand Plaza to go down to deck 2.

I'm assuming there is an elevator somewhere as this has to be accessible.  We did not find it.

This is what worked for us on our sailing. 🙂

TIP:

Doors in public bathrooms.  Hold your hand over the light on the side of the door and it will automatically open.  I really liked this.  There were also washcloths instead of hand towels-a nice touch.

It's hard to tell if the stalls are in use.  The lock has a circle that you can look at to see someone is in there.  Would be nice if it had red/green or empty/occupied, but it's just a silver lock.

VERTICAL line: stall is empty

HORIZONTAL line: stall is occupied

TIP:

For AMS Schipol Airport…

We were about to throw away our water bottles when security stopped us and told us we didn’t have to.

They allow you to bring water!  We were shocked!  We’ve never experienced this before, so thought it might be new for others, too.
