Do you pay for each shot? How do the games work?

The first shot is free, you pay after that.  Or you can drink water.  You take a drink when you mess up in the game, and that makes you "out."  So in reality, there is only one drink in each round of the game.

 

Done before eating?  Do they give everyone a free shot before starting game?  Do you only drink that free shot when you mess up and then are designated out?  Didn't understand the part about paying after the first shot.

Shortly after being seated the server will pour everyone a complimentary shot of Soju and play a drinking game. There is no charge for the shot. 
They may or may not offer to give another to the winner or similar, that depends on your server and how much is left in the bottle of soju!
 

if you decide to drink more soju you pay for it same as all other alcoholic beverages. It’s only the shots as part of the game that are free.

Basically as above, however on our last cruise things were creative.

Normally, they pour one shot for each person at the table.  The loser in each round drinks their shot. Typically they offer another "free" shot to the winner.  However, on our last cruise, the server just kept pouring until the bottle was gone at no charge.

And if you don't drink, they will pour you a "shot" of water, so you can still participate in the game.
