Piaa Posted June 15, 2023 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2023 (edited) Good afternoon everyone, I am fairly certain dress code is "country club casual" for dinner (I am thinking maxi dress for ladies?) but what about for men? We sail on SeaDream mainly and as many dinners are served outside on deck, shorts are acceptable for men with a polo/Tommy Bahama type shirt (if in the dining room then long pants are required) but what about on Windstar in Tahiti please - shorts OK for dinner or always long pants. Thank you Edited June 15, 2023 by Piaa
Piaa Posted June 15, 2023 Author #2 Share Posted June 15, 2023 I was going to edit but it wont let me for some reason .. I am only asking because, as a first timer to a Windstar sailing ship, I didn't know if dining was on deck a lot of time in Tahiti and I see they have "Candles Grill" that is available for dinner and under the description it reads "Dress Code: Attire onboard Windstar is specified as "casual elegance" but it does not say no shorts at dinner like it does under AmphorA (Main Dining Room) where it states "Dress Code: Attire onboard Windstar is specified as "casual elegance". Resort wear, no formal nights. No jeans, shorts or T-shirts at dinner" On SeaDream, dinner is either outside (where shorts for men are allowed) or in the dining room where shorts are not allowed so you don't have an option to dine and I am wondering if it is the same on Wind Spirit (I did search but this specifically wasn't mentioned) Hubby (obviously) wants to follow the dress code but if nice shorts and collared shirts are allowed he would much prefer to wear those. This is our first Windstar sailing trip so forgive me for being clueless - so if we eat dinner at Candles Grill (is it even open for dinner?) are shorts OK there? Thank you for any help
Nearpost345 Posted June 18, 2023 #5 Share Posted June 18, 2023 Looks like long pants are required at Candles The Luxury As You Like It attitude of a Windstar ship is also reflected in the way our guests dress: Imaginative, yet relaxed. Stylish, yet comfortable. Just as you would dress at an elegant resort. Clothes that are light and cool, made of natural fabrics like cotton, silk, and linen, are most appropriate. For women's daytime wear, we suggest walking shorts, skirts, sarongs, lightweight tops and cover-ups; for evening wear, sun dresses, pants, and informal cocktail attire. Men's daytime wear: walking/ Bermuda shorts, polo shirts, khaki pants; in the evening, lightweight trousers and short-sleeved dress/polo shirts. No suits or ties. And no shorts, flip-flops, ripped or torn jeans, hats or t-shirts in Amphora or Candles during the evening. If your cruise takes you to Monte Carlo, please note that casinos there require men to wear both a tie and a jacket.

SailingHigher Posted June 20, 2023 #7 Share Posted June 20, 2023 Evening wear was casual, but no shorts or t-shirts were allowed on Wind Spirit at dinner. The rule seems out of date to us. For example, we’ve been to the fanciest restaurants at the Intercontinental on Tahiti and the St. Regis on Bora Bora on this trip. Nice shorts were not an issue at all at the resorts. The nice slacks I brought with me were overkill both on Wind Spirit and at the hotels.

I think you can look just as "tasteful" in a nice pair of shorts and Tommy Bahama type shirt and nice shoes (maybe more so than jeans which are allowed as long as they are not ripped) especially in tropical climates and eating on deck .. but it is what it is and so glad I checked - thank you everyone for confirming
