How exact does name need to be?

One of the travellers is on the booking as Jack. His BC/passport are listed as "Jackson"
 

Should we amend his booking, or will we be fine?

Passenger name should be same as what is on passport.

 Agreed. Call and have it corrected. There should not be any charge.

I would agree.  If you have time to change it, change it. I work embarkation for another cruise line. It would not prevent someone from getting on the ship, but would require extra time during the embarkation process to get the agents to make the change, and then get Supervisor approval.
