aggieastrosfan Posted June 5, 2004 #26 Share Posted June 5, 2004 They're just FUN! While I'm not a class-less person by any means, I don't live a lifestyle that requires me to know what each fork is used for. The Carnival experience is perfect for me, as it allows me to experience finer dining than I'm used to in a relaxed atmosphere I'm comfortable with. I'm sailing Princess in December, though, over the originally planned 5-day Ecstasy, because the price was just too good. Plus, it's the opportunity to sail a new line on a mega-ship from Galveston! Guest Posted June 6, 2004 #29 Share Posted June 6, 2004 I am always loyal to something I like and feel in return I am treated better as a frequent guest. I also think Carnival is an excellent value for the buck, plus I know what to expect on each cruise, the food is great, and I've met wonderful passengers from all over the world. I have not been disappointed yet with Carnival. Rocky1540 Posted June 6, 2004 #30 Share Posted June 6, 2004 We tried a few diferent lines, as you can see by my signature. We like Carnival because they are definately priced right. WE did the Grand Princess and didn't like it because of the lack of fun. I felt like the ship's lights were turned out at midnight. I think the service staff was so much better and catered to our kids. The Carnival dinner staff always had fun with the kids...the princess staff never even acknowledged their existence, and believe it or not, they noticed. Rocky Not enough time for crusin'! Stevie17 Posted June 15, 2004 #31 Share Posted June 15, 2004 This is a great thread. We've never sailed on Carnival, but we will be in the future. We have young children, and Carnival seems to cater to the little ones. We've had great cruises with NCL and Princess and would sail both again, but after our next cruise in February, we'll be trying Carnival. Until 9 nights of pure joy in the Southern Caribbean!!! rez1 Posted June 15, 2004 #33 Share Posted June 15, 2004 Just punched the 1st hole in my cruise belt with Carnival Elation. I had done a lot of research with actual TAs, online, past cruisers and ofcourse the wonderful folks here at CC. Did not hear one bad thing about Carnival. My cruise experience was wonderful, and I'm saving for my next Carnival cruise. Since I like to travel with DW and 2 1/2 year old DS, Carnival was my perfect selection, over other cruise lines. sportsterjohn Posted June 15, 2004 #34 Share Posted June 15, 2004 I pick the cruise I will take based on the price, ports and dates of the cruise. I am going to be on my 1st Carnival cruise next month. The reason that I picked CCL for this cruise is because they had a special and I got a 5 day cruise for only 399pp leaving from a port only 6hrs from my house. I took my last cruise in March and the 2 main reason I picked the NCL dream is because I wanted to dive in Roatan and it left on a Sun so I could conserve a vacation day. Bottom line is that all cruise lines generally sell the same product. I think there is much more difference from ship to ship within the same line than there is line to line. However, I may end up changing my mind after my July cruise! NCL Sea 3/03 RCCL Sovereign 10/03 NCL Dream 3/7/2004 CCL Jubilee 7/24/2004
fhall Posted June 15, 2004 #35 Share Posted June 15, 2004 I sailed NCL twice then tried Carnival. I have never looked back. I like Carnival much better than NCL, the staff on NCL seemed stuffy , and unhappy compared to Carnivals staff. The rooms, are bigger, more going on , and oh yes, the room service menu is much better . skylark Posted June 15, 2004 #36 Share Posted June 15, 2004 I love Carnival. We are a family of four and its very cost effective for us. Its laid back and kid friendly, and we ALL have sooo much fun. I leave this Saturday on my third cruise with Carnival. We tried NCL cruise line but it was just a bit too stuffy for us.
gymbrat33 Posted June 15, 2004 #37 Share Posted June 15, 2004 I've never been on any other cruiseline. I went on my first cruise on Carnival and I'm hooked. The ships are beautiful. They have excellent food, service, entertainment, and a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. They also have reasonable prices on their cruises. I needed a cruise on my spring break vacation and no one was able to go with me so I went by myself. There's something about Carnival's atmosphere that I felt comfortable enough to go by myself. staceyvols Posted June 15, 2004 #38 Share Posted June 15, 2004 I've been on 2 Carnival cruises and one Royal Carrib. Both Carnival ones were a blast, especially the piano bar! Royal Carrib-Mariner of the Seas-ship was nice but the carpets were rolled up at 11 p.m. AND they let anyone 18 and over drink as long as somene 21 or over was traveling with them. This made the bars not as fun, kids drinking that dont' know how to drink and hold their liquor. Thought that was funny since that's what a lot of people think about Carnival. I prefer to sail with professional drinkers! Going back to Carnival this fall on Legend! Carnival Legend
BoatGirl Posted June 16, 2004 #39 Share Posted June 16, 2004 I have sailed twice on Carnival and twice on RCI. Both have their good points. One nice thing about RCI is that they generally have more balcony rooms (once I had a balcony I can't live without one!). I do prefer the food on Carnival (especially in the Windjammer), the price is reasonable, the service is great, and I can always seem to find a ship that is sailing right from my backyard! Very conveient. Looking forward to taking my kids on their first Carnival cruise in April! dantc1 Posted June 16, 2004 #41 Share Posted June 16, 2004 I had a mental image of cruise ships as stuffy, overpriced tubs filled with tottering old farts in formal wear. Therefore, I wasn't really thrilled when my company had a "mandatory conference" and packed up all 500 employees and plopped them on a cruise ship. Fortunately for me, that was a Carnival ship and I had the time of my life. Carnival made cruising accessible and enjoyable, and I've enjoyed every journey I've taken on their ships since then. MusicMan Posted June 16, 2004 #43 Share Posted June 16, 2004 After cruising several times on Carnival I went on a HAL cruise to Alaska (with a group of my wifes co-workers). It was a wonderfull experience, but at times boring. Carnival provides a variety of activities (that suit me) and there is never a dull moment (unless you want one). I prefer karaoke and talent shows to rock-climbing walls and ice skating rinks. I am 53 years old and while I like to party, I'm certainly not in the "drink-till-you-puke" mode. It just seems to me that Carnival really does have "Fun Ships"... and to me that's what cruise is about..FUN!!!!!!!!!! cruiselover** Posted June 16, 2004 #44 Share Posted June 16, 2004 My husband and I have only cruised with Carnival. We have been on seven cruises so far, with number eight scheduled for the Carnival Valor in February 2005. The reason we have stayed with Carnival is that we have never been disappointed in any way! The staff on every ship has been super. We have loved the food, the entertainment, the bars (especially the Miami Vices!!), the ports, and everything about it! I will continue to cruise with Carnival until I have a reason to switch, but at this point, I don't see that happening. What vacation could possibly be better? Dee88 Posted June 16, 2004 #45 Share Posted June 16, 2004 I have only cruised once and that was with Carnival. I was blown away by the size of the cabins (8I cabin with myself, hubby, 17yr old and 13 yr old.). More then enough room. The service was amazing - the food was great and I couldn't beat the price. While checking out cruises again, we picked the Miracle. Prices are just so much better then other cruise lines - unless there is something else out there that can fit my budget and is as much fun as Carnival ...I'm sticking with Carnival 10/4/03 Legend 08/14/04 Miracle
mtchg Posted June 16, 2004 #46 Share Posted June 16, 2004 From the original CCL ship Mardi Gras (compared to the ships today..dumpy with the toilet IN my shower), to the beautiful (but MUCH older crowd, ship was quiet most nites by 11:30) RCI Splendour of the Seas, every one of my cruises have been wonderful, each with it's own strengths and weaknesses but always a great time and always meeting great folks, making new friends. To the topic, yes I agree Carnival is over all the best value...a great cruise line. She will always be my first and best love. But I jumped at the chance to try RCI when a great singles special popped up last minute. It was a long cruise..12 nites out of Galveston. I knew going in, at 46 I would be one of the younger ones, but it was SO cool to try another line, and they definately do some things better than Carnival. So I suggest that, though you may lean on one line the most, don't be afraid to try another if a price is decent enough. My next is a taste of "The Mouse" in October. Now THAT should be an experience. MusicMan Posted June 30, 2004 #50 Share Posted June 30, 2004 Robbyxoxo: I don't form my opinions based on a survey. While it's true that Carnival may or may not be the tops in food, I have recently sailed Holland America and "I" prefer Carnival food and service to that experienced on HAL and as a 53 year old, "burger and fries" being " da' bomb" is not on my culinary evalation scale. I was evaluating the dining room food/service. Something you should consider when reading a poll, is that there is a LOT of prejudice AGAINST Carnival out there, to the point that anyone suggesting Carnival might actually be superior to {insert someone elses favorite cruise line here} in ANY area is frequently dismissed out of hand and even ridiculed by THOSE WHO HAVE NEVER CRUISED CARNIVAL!!
