Dundee to St. Andrews

Recommended Posts

Per Google maps, it is approximately a 20-25 minute drive from Dundee to St. Andrews.  We are arriving at the port of Dundee and would like to know if taxis are readily available at the cruise terminal? Other than a taxi, there doesn't seem to be non stop public transportation and not interested in taking one or two buses. Thanks.

Dundee sees very few cruise ships and doesn’t have the level of infrastructure seen at bigger ports.

As such I would recommend pre-booking any transportation you may require. There will be some cabs, but not necessarily enough to meet demand.

Public transport is great to St Andrews from Dundee. Buses run every 7 minutes to St Andrews and bus station is right in the town. I know it’s a personal choice but I love travelling on local buses when I travel. You get a great glimpse into local life. The local life on those buses is mainly St Andrews University students, so you will be perfectly safe!

If you insist on a taxi you would need to pre- book. Neither Dundee or St Andrews have taxis readily available, or taxis waiting at a rank for a fare.

The regular public buses ARE direct between the two and with travel time around 25-30 minutes  definitely worth considering.

Thanks for this clarification.  Did another search and found on Xplore Dundee website that the 99X bus which I believe is the only direct bus has been cancelled (see below).

Mon 3rd Jul onwards

Due to changes to Fife School services from the start of the new academic year in August, the following school day only services will no longer be operated by Xplore Dundee: 99X, GF1, MD1, MD2, MD3, MD4, MD5, MD6, MD9, MD10, MD11.

Have emailed Xplore Dundee for alternate bus routes but expect we would have to make a connection. Not sure what taxi company to contact for advance booking - do you have a recommendation?

You’re looking at the wrong bus company.

Stagecoach operates the main service from Dundee to St Andrews, the 99, up to every 10 minutes (20 on Sundays).

Thank you very much for this info as didn't see when googling!  This works out perfectly now just have to figure out which bus stop is closest to where the ship will dock - Dundee/Forth Port website states "Cruise passengers and Naval personnel enjoy being so close to the city centre from the ship, with the walking time being only fifteen minutes, or five minutes by taxi."  By chance, do you know what bus stop is closest to where the ship will dock - really appreciate your assistance:

The Seagate Bus Station stop is closest, although it’s still a 15-20 minute walk. Or you can hop on a city bus, or try and find a cab.

Thank you again and so noted. Put it in Google Maps and states, "This route has restricted usage or private roads." - we will wait to see when we arrive and perhaps there will be complementary shuttle to the City Centre as is often the case when in an industrial or restricted dock area.
