Venice to Fusina Transfer

We’re cruising in Oct from Venice (Fusina) and will be arriving 5 days early and searching for an easy way to transfer to Fusina for the cruise.  Can we book a Azamara transfer from VCE and just show up at the airport on cruise day.  Sounds simple to me but will Azamara let us do it.

There’s no direct access to Fusina, this is the information Azamara sent out in May regarding checking in for cruises departing Fusina this year:

Guests arriving at the Venice airport and booked on an Azamara transfer:

  • Guests will be transported to Porto Marittima (not Fusina), which takes approximately 20-30 minutes.
  • Upon reaching Porto Marittima, guests will then be transferred by port authorities to Fusina, which takes approximately 20-30 minutes.
  • It's important to note that direct access to the ship is not allowed.
  • Check-in procedures will be conducted at either terminal 117 or 107 at Porto Marittima. To view the map, please click here. The terminal will end check-in procedures at 4:30 PM.
  • Please Note: Tronchetto transfers are not available, as the terminal is situated 600 meters away from the Marittima People Mover Station. However, both the Marittima People Mover Station and the Water Taxi Station will provide shuttles to terminal 117.

For guests who have organized their own separate transfers or intend to take a taxi, rest assured that taxis will be conveniently accessible at the airport. Simply head straight to Porto Marittima from the airport.

Not sure, we’re staying in Mestre the night before and have a car booked from there to Port Marittima through the hotel at a cost of €45 it’s the easiest way. If you’re staying in Venice it’s easier to just get to Porto Marittima rather than going back to the airport, we find that the hotels are very helpful in advising on transportation. As it says the Azamara airport transfer is to Porto Marittima not Fusina, all passengers will be transferred from Marittima to Fusina by port transport.

We disembarked in Fusina a few days ago and had booked an Azamara transfer to Venice airport. I'll describe how this works. After leaving the ship guests are directed to coaches by Azamara staff depending on their flight times (your luggage has already gone ahead to Maritima). The coach then takes you to Maritima where you leave the coach and enter a warehouse type building to reclaim your luggage. You then exit the building to board a different coach for your journey to the airport - there are no passport or any other checks at Fusina or Maritima. The coach journey to the airport takes about 20 minutes and you leave the coach with your luggage in a car park about 15 minute walk from the terminal. We had to stand in the car park in 35 C bright sunshine for several minutes while everyone got their luggage and then were guided to the terminal.

I'm not sure why you cannot be taken directly from Fusina to the airport as there were no checks of any kind at Maritima.

It's probably a government rule, and like the 2021 mandatory bubbles for cruise excursions don't expect to ever see it in writing!

Thanks for this info but is this the process for all flight departures? When you book the airport transfer on the website, it says that for flights leaving before 11:30 AM, guests will be taken from Fusina directly to the airport. We had to provide a departure time when we requested the transfer, but they gave no guidelines as to how early we should leave the ship before flight departure time.

For flights before 11.30am there is a direct transfer from Fusina to the airport. The transfer leaves the ship at 6.45am. Your flight details will be checked by Italian customs before you are allowed on the transfer. Apparently some guests on our cruise who had flights slightly later than 11.30am tried to get the early transfer but were prevented.

Thanks so much for the clarification. We have an 11:00 flight so I guess we won’t be booted off the early transfer!
