Medic1330 Posted November 11, 2006 #27 Share Posted November 11, 2006 Need song suggestions for a cruising CD. I remember there being a thread a very long time ago pertaining to this but I cannot locate it. People made suggestions like "Sitting by the Dock of the Bay," "Cruisin," "Red, Red Wine," various Jimmy Buffett songs etc. It was amazing how many songs people suggested. Any help would be appreciated. I am trying to burn a CD as part of a gift bag for our traveling companions on the April 1 sailing of the Golden Princess. Thanks, Linda Hi Linda, I made up a CD for this purpose as a lead-in to a surprise cruise birthday present. Some of the songs that I used were: Come Sail Away (Styx), Vacation (Go-Go's), a bunch of Jimmy Buffett (Margaritaville, Holiday, Jolly Mon etc), Caribbean Queen. I know there were more, but these are the ones that come to mind right now. Hope this helps! Robin

checklady724 Posted December 5, 2006 #29 Share Posted December 5, 2006 I wish I could download all these songs. My hubby got a tickle when I read off Gilligan Islands theme, he rolled on the floor when I knew all the words and said I scared him, lol. I love the sail away music on the lido deck of all the cruises I have sailed. I try and keep a little of the music with me but I wish I had it all. This has been a great thread and I have enjoyed it.:D

avalanche15 Posted January 26, 2007 #33 Share Posted January 26, 2007 Just burned my 1st list for my upcoming cruise. My list is mostly for chillin' on the balcony. Figured I would leave the more 'cruise' themed music to the live band on the pool deck. Here are some highlights. Cool Breeze - Neal Schon Deacon Blues - Steely Dan Violet - Seal Drive - Gary Hoey Everytime - The Samples September - Earth Wind & Fire Fields of Gold - Sting Hey Nineteen - Steely Dan I Want to Break Free - Queen Cabo Wabo - Van Halen King for a Day - XTC Lights - Journey Mercy Street - Peter Gabriel Minute by Minute - Doobie Brothers Never as Good as the First Time - Sade Rough Goes Riding - Van Morrison Sing a Song - Earth Wind & Fire Song of a Seabird - William Topley Spanish Dancer - Steve Winwood Your My Best Friend - Queen Waiting for You - Seal Anything by The Rippingtons! Oops, got carried away there, I could go on for hours. While not the most 'cruise' themed music, it will be nice to hear these songs back in the real world and be reminded of the fantasy world! dolfansam Posted February 18, 2007 #37 Share Posted February 18, 2007 Anything Reggae gets me ready to cruise. It puts me in the right state of my for a trip to the Caribbean. I always get fond memories of my first cruise when I hear One Love. I was on the beach in CoCo Cay, I believe, and a bus went by and the entire bus was singing this song. I had to stop and laugh it was like a live commercial.

TravelinTchr Posted February 25, 2007 #40 Share Posted February 25, 2007 Go to the "World" section of your nearest music shop, and find the Putumayo CD's. There is one of their CD's called "Carribean Playground", and it's got all kinds of neat Carribean music, and even one on there called "All Aboard". I used that one in a DVD that I made of pictures our last cruise. If you are doing a Hawaiian cruise, go find some CD's by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (a former musician from Hawaii, and is now deceased). His music is really fun, too. You can also find his music in the "World" section of your local music store. ENJOY! :D Melinda

NMCruzzin Posted March 16, 2007 #44 Share Posted March 16, 2007 I always thought of the Ocean and ships when I hear this song: Brandy - Looking Glass The sailors said "Brandy, you're a fine girl What a good wife you would be But my life, my lover, my lady Is the sea." We feel that every ship's house band should be playing this number a we sail away. It is simply called "Sail Away" by David Gray Enjoy. :) Cptn. jeph Posted March 29, 2007 #50 Share Posted March 29, 2007 Okay, the pop selections are all well and good, but how's about we bring a little more CULTCHA to this thread?;) As your ship plows relentlessly through the swells of the deep ocean, the chef suggests: --The overture to Wagner's "Die Meistersinger" --Saint-Saens' 3rd ("Organ") Symphony --Debussy's "La Mer" ("The Sea") --Cesar Franck's Symphony in D-minor And for the departure from, or return to, the harbor of New York City, what could be better, or more evocative, than Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue"? I wish they'd put it over the loudspeakers on deck...have that on your headphones as the towers of Manhattan glide past, and see if it doesn't bring a tear to your eye!
