Just returned from a cruise out of Southampton.  Dinner at a restaurant would not take Pounds....had to charge dinner.

 

Everywhere we went, we could use a credit card (Ireland, Iceland, Greenland, Southampton, LHR).  I had more pounds than I needed and left it as tips for the crew.  I'm sure they would have preferred US dollars since they could not get off at any of the (tender) ports.  Princess Corp is US dollar based.  It would cost the crew an exchange rate for pounds/euros to US dollars unless their country of origin takes pounds/euros.

 

Tips in US dollars are appreciated more than no tip at all for cruise or tours.

This is unnecessary in 2024. We tap to pay everything in foreign countries, and at home too. If you do need cash, find a local ATM.

Sky Princess said NO regarding exhange USD to Euro. 

Per our cabin steward they all get paid in USD.  On our cruise in June 24 we were short on GBP so  the extra tips to cabin/dining staffs were in USD.

I’m sure US tour guides and operators appreciate tips in Euros, Pounds, Pesos, etc.

AAA is a good place to get foreign currency if you are a member. You can place an order and have your money is a few days.

@ClekIt might be a regional thing on getting foreign currency.  June 2024 our local AAA office stated they had stopped to do that a few years back.
