Family Vac 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2023 We booked the Lovely Taormina Tour thinking we would have a guide for the Greek Theater. However after reading the description the Greek Theater may not be included although the picture of the tour is the theater. Will we have time to see the theater on our own? How far away is the Greek Theater? What is the cost? Any info is appreciated.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted July 19, 2023 #2 Share Posted July 19, 2023 The town of Taormina is fairly compact. The theatre is at the opposite end from where you enter (e.g., through the gate nearest to the parking garage). It only takes minutes to walk from one end to the other. Can you post the description of your tour? Most excursions that have "walking tour" in them include the theatre. If your tour says "Taormina on your own" then obviously it is not included. If it's not included, tickets cost 10 euros. Depending on your interests you could spend just a few minutes there up to an hour if you really want to climb around and also visit the Antiquarium (a small museum) onsite. Hambagahle Posted July 19, 2023 #3 Share Posted July 19, 2023 We did a walking tour of Taormina "on our own". The ticket booth for the Greek Theatre was really easy to find - ask for the "Teatro Antico" or even the Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo because it is across the little lane from that hotel. The theatre AND the view from the theatre is sensational. I will never forget the "picture" of a smoking Etna framed by the columns of the theatre. Family Vac 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 Author #6 Share Posted July 19, 2023 The tour picture is the theater however the tour doesn’t say that they enter the theater so I am concerned
Rare cruisemom42 Posted July 20, 2023 #7 Share Posted July 20, 2023 Thanks for posting the description. You are right to be concerned. It's not mentioned at all so I'd suspect it is not included. Perhaps there is some event taking place in the theatre when you'll be there that would make it off limits. What date are you scheduled to be in port? MeHeartCruising Posted July 20, 2023 #8 Share Posted July 20, 2023 I would bet that the guided portion of the tour takes you to near where they turn you free for your “on your own time”. I bet they say you can go in the theatre if you choose to, after paying the fee. But just a guess.
