manwithlantern Posted July 22, 2023 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2023 Question re luggage at embarkation point in Brooklyn. Is there normally a porter setup as at Southhampton and LeHavre? We are booked for the QM2 Caribbean cruise in late November and hope we can avoid repeating our February 2022 QM2 boarding in Brooklyn -- standing in a long line outside, followed by a long standing wait inside, followed by a trudge dragging our suitcases up ramps to the entry point into the ship and then to our stateroom. Can we look forward to a smoother entry this time?
Millieloulou Posted July 22, 2023 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2023 I thought your luggage was delivered to your stateroom.I don’t think I want to be dragging anything anywhere 😕

Luggage is then delivered to one’s stateroom. The only dragging will possibly be one’s sack barrow, or trolley, loaded with alcohol into the Departure Centre.

The OP is asking about Brooklyn not Southampton.
Millieloulou Posted July 22, 2023 #6 Share Posted July 22, 2023 Joking apart I want to know about Brooklyn embarkation.I always thought the luggage was taken off you and the next time you saw it was in your stateroom. We have previously flown into JFK ,and put the little tickets on the luggage. We are arriving the day before so a different approach.
manwithlantern Posted July 22, 2023 Author #7 Share Posted July 22, 2023 I'm inclined to believe the Brooklyn episode in 2022 was one-off due to the extensive COVID paperwork requirements at that time and perhaps a shortage of porters, but I would like to hear from any recent Brooklyn QM2 boarding passengers that luggage delivered to room as done in Southampton is back. TouchstoneFeste Posted July 22, 2023 #8 Share Posted July 22, 2023 Not all that recent, but at Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in May 2022 we transferred our luggage directly from the taxi to the porters/dock workers (as I recall, the taxi driver and porters did this, but I helped). Only thing we carried from there on - by choice - was our carry-on hand luggage.

techteach Posted July 22, 2023 #10 Share Posted July 22, 2023 Embarked in Brooklyn end of June. Your car pulls up, you get out, the trunk opens, very strong men remove the luggage from your car and put it on trolleys. You see it next in your cabin. 1
moses0 Posted July 22, 2023 #11 Share Posted July 22, 2023 I know it can sometimes be expensive but Luggage Forwarding has really helped us when we have used it. From house to stateroom. Airline charges for bags are getting ridiculous these days.

Millieloulou Posted July 23, 2023 #13 Share Posted July 23, 2023 Will the very strong men help me with my trolley of alcohol? Thankyou for helping with one of my many queries on my list .
