Rare BermudaBound2014 Posted July 22, 2023 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2023 Yes, way too early for Whale Season. However; there are some early bird sightings in Sept and October. They are few and far between but it is not impossible to spot a whale in Maui that early. Last year the first sighting was September 14th. Here's a list of other years 'first sightings'. Researchers don't know why a few stragglers show up so early, but suspect ocean warming might be triggering early migration. But, in general, I would not book a whale watch in mid October and expect to see whales. I would consider a whale sighting that early a bonus.

But you could schedule an offshore snorkeling trip-- there are a bunch of providers but Trilogy and Captain Steves are my faves-- and you might spot a whale as a bonus. Might. You'll have a slightly better shot on the boat ride over to where you'll snorkel than from shore at that time of year.
