havanadaydreaming Posted August 6, 2023 #1 Share Posted August 6, 2023 A bit surprising but we just had our guaranteed cabin assigned this week for late Oct cruise on Venezia. I anticipated it being a final week(s) scenario based on what others would pay to select. Whats the latest anyone has had a cabin assigned? wemjam Posted August 6, 2023 #2 Share Posted August 6, 2023 I have had an assigned room like you months out, and I have had it done just days before sailing. It all depends.
WhiteOptima Posted August 7, 2023 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2023 This is my first time doing this and when I read this topic went and checked my November 9th Venezia cruise and my room was assigned too. I was thinking it was going to be months too. We did interior this time and we are below galley so hope it is okay. This was pretty cheap for us so rather not keep upping the price by changing rooms. audcc77 Posted August 7, 2023 #4 Share Posted August 7, 2023 I just had one assigned at the pier last week on the Luminosa to Alaska, from Seattle. We had an inside guarantee and ended up with an obstructed balcony.
audcc77 Posted August 7, 2023 #5 Share Posted August 7, 2023 Apparently, I was wrong. This is considered an interior with a window. Not a balcony. Still, it was great having a couch.
mz-s Posted August 7, 2023 #6 Share Posted August 7, 2023 Typically my guarantee rooms are assigned about a month prior to sail, so that when I do online check-in my boarding pass and luggage tags are ready to go. But yes it could be assigned at any time, including not until you actually arrive at the pier that morning. 3 hours ago, audcc77 said: Apparently, I was wrong. Presumably your luggage tags say TBA or something to that effect, how do you get your luggage delivered to the correct room?

I'm told that the lead Porter outside the terminal has a manifest and he hand writes you a luggage tag. We've never personally had that happen with our latest assignment taking place perhaps 3-4 days ahead of the cruise enabling us to print at home.
Rare Essiesmom Posted August 7, 2023 #8 Share Posted August 7, 2023 Once you have your cabin assigned, keep checking your booking because you may discover an upgrade offer. I was assigned one of those 4K insides with window on Spirit, had an upgrade offer for balcony for $100. But since it was only 4 nights and I seldom use a balcony when I have it, I declined. I had barely paid more than that for it original inside gty. EM
Rare angelsfort Posted August 7, 2023 #9 Share Posted August 7, 2023 are rooms assigned when the ship is fully booked? or maybe just when your specific cabin class gets fully booked? I can see that they wouldn't need to wait any longer, if all cabins were sold out...

They pulled them out, wrote on them with thick black marker. Yes, they said TBA. Edited August 8, 2023 by audcc77 X

I can see that they wouldn't need to wait any longer, if all cabins were sold out... The ship was fully booked shortly after I booked my cabin, about a month prior to sailing. I kept wondering why they were not assigning me a room since the ship was full. I thought for sure we were getting a lousy location, but was pleasantly surprised. 4th floor mid. I booked mine on a casino offer about a month out and an interior guarantee was the only option. I am not sure if me being Platinum had anything to do with it. The fact that it’s summer break was surprising to me to have a casino offer for 7 days in Alaska show up. Anyway, the casino got back the money for my cabin in spades. 😂

As I have gotten my room assigned months before sailing when there were lots of rooms left, and then on a last minute cruise we didn't get it assigned until like a day or so before. Don't do this very often, but I will say I have been very happy with the few times we have done it, got rooms that we would have picked ourselves, except one time. Got a room right under the kitchen and the cooking smells were almost unbearable at times. Onion and Garlic was so bad our clothes smelled like it.
havanadaydreaming Posted August 8, 2023 Author #13 Share Posted August 8, 2023 This will be 2nd cruise where we will be a few cabins down from lobby bar. We really liked that location on Horizon. I have an unsupported "fear" of getting deck 1 and 2 cabins. Im sure they are just fine but i want to be higher up.
JCrewz Posted August 10, 2023 #14 Share Posted August 10, 2023 On the Vista sailing on July 29th, our guarantee was assigned on Friday the 28th. Officially the latest a guarantee has ever been assigned to me, although Carnival says you can go to the ship without a room assignment.
WhiteOptima Posted August 10, 2023 #15 Share Posted August 10, 2023 As I mentioned this is the first time doing guaranteed room and was disappointed with room 2400 but hey you get what you get. Then 2 days later I log in and there was an offer to upgrade my room to Terrazza for $200. Sold! This is not something I will do for every cruise but this was a last minute “I don’t want to spend a lot of money” cruise.
