Celebrity is acting as if they are universally loved and that the world is begging for their product. My TA just advised me he has had 3 cancellations of Celebrity bookings just last week alone, and all 3 clients have either a Oceania and Viking booked. Time will tell if the Celebrity prices, downgrading etc result in price reductions. I am watching with interest indeed. Even if XX (the double cross company) eventually lowered pricing because they had to in order to attract bookings, why would previous loyalists go back to them when they found alternative cruise lines which may have found new loyalists? When a company kicks me on the way up, I kick them back on the way down!
ptcflyer Posted September 5, 2023 #203 Share Posted September 5, 2023 I have a theory on cruise inventory. The Cruise lines are being much more aggressive giving away cabins to Gamblers in the Casino. (directly through Blue Chip Club and through third party gambling agents) I have received 15 free cruises in the past 2 years with very minimal gambling. I do believe that rather than "trash" cruise pricing and sell the cabins, they are literally reducing inventory to the paying public and giving away cabins to fill the Casino and hopefully they make more money. With reduced inventory that they before sold at a heavier discount, they are focusing those promotions on casino gamblers.
zitsky Posted September 5, 2023 #204 Share Posted September 5, 2023 Well no one is forced to book a cruise with Celebrity. If people stop maybe it will change.
Lynn2629 Posted September 5, 2023 #205 Share Posted September 5, 2023 FWIW it’s worth, RCCL is doing the same thing as far as charging much more than 200% of the PP price fo solo travelers. I always have my eyes open for a relatively last-minute deal, and I came across one for late October: a 6-day cruise to the Bahamas for $530 per-person in a balcony. A 6-day getaway for $1060 in a balcony sounded appealing, so I checked the pricing: for a solo, it’s $1800!
