Lucysnan Posted August 13, 2023 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2023 Can anyone help? We have some friends who have booked their first cruise for next year. They have booked a balcony cabin on F deck with a sofa bed and pull-down bed for just the two of them, they were advised by their TA that it wasn’t a problem as obviously the pull-down bed wouldn’t needed to be deployed, but they are worried about it rattling as they are both light sleepers. Hopefully someone who has been in this situation can help to put their mind at rest.
solentsam Posted August 13, 2023 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2023 we ( just the two of us) have had a cabin as you described, no problem with noise.
AndyMichelle Posted August 13, 2023 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2023 Interested to hear replies to this too. We have booked with family next year in 4 adjoining cabins for 4 couples, but 1 has a pull down bed. I assured them it will be fine, but the truth is, I don't really know... Lucysnan Posted August 13, 2023 Author #4 Share Posted August 13, 2023 Thank you, that’s a relief, it would be a shame if it spoiled their first cruise.
Rare Cloudyrain Posted August 13, 2023 #5 Share Posted August 13, 2023 The beds don’t rattle, but ships in general often do. There is a lot to rattle in a cabin (glasses/cups, coat hangers, toiletries etc), balcony furniture, balcony partitions etc. Cabins in ships aren’t particularly quiet. If your friends are naturally light sleepers they may want to take some good silicone ear plugs.
lindyloo22 Posted August 13, 2023 #6 Share Posted August 13, 2023 We had a cabin on Arvia with a pull down bed no noise or rattles.
Thejuggler Posted August 15, 2023 #7 Share Posted August 15, 2023 If they are light sleepers they do need ear plugs as there are 1001 other things generating noise which may disturb them. Other passengers, banging doors, general engine vibrations, side thrusters, capstans noise when pulling chains and ropes, crew calling each other etc etc especially when preparing docking which can happen from v early in a morning. tyke2 Posted August 19, 2023 #8 Share Posted August 19, 2023 So, it seems there's no noise from these but do get in the way or spoil the general looks of the cabin? The 2 of us are on a Saver fare and have been allocated a room with 2 of them, surprisingly!

They are “hidden” in the ceiling: not like on the older ships where they were folded up against the wall like a 1970s caravan - banging your head on them every time you got up to go to the loo in the night 😂
